RE: Quarterbacks: Stats Alone

the format didn't come across exactly how i would like, but i think you guys and gals are smart enough to figure it out. under INT i put the total number of INT and the percentage of INT they throw.

looking at only stats is not the best way to judge a QB, but it does give another criteria in which to judge.

Leinart seems to be BY FAR the best passer
Young seems to be BY FAR the best runner
Croyle and Young are both right there at being the worst passer
Croyle is the worst runner

RE: Quarterbacks: Stats Alone

Haha so no Croyle. VY can throw, but he's not nearly on the same plane as Leinart and Cutler. Cutler also only threw over 60% completion one time in four years. Leinart never went below 63%. He also never threw for less than 3300 yards. Leinart's running stats have also gotten better each year, as he racked up 6 rushing touchdowns last season. I think that shows he has become very comfortable with when to get out of the pocket and run. People can compare his running stats to VY's, but VY was in a more run-first pass-second kind of offense. Leinart was only supposed to throw when he had to.

And for all of you Omar Jacobs fans, even though he was hurt for a few games this last season, his yards went way down, his touchdowns went way down, his interceptions went up, and his completion percentage went way down. No thank you, I"ll pass.

to be very honest, i mignt rank omar jacobs above vince young as an overall qb.

1)Leinart
2)Jacobs
3)Cutler
4)Young
I would not even consider drafting Croyle. I might sign him as an undrafted free agent, a big might.

good research jergensi. I've been a Leinart man this entire time, and the numbers make me feel more comfortable with my decission. Coming from a pro-style offense and wiith a TD to Int ratio that is very impressive, he'd be the best fit for a Head Coach that has had the last four starting QBs all pass for over 3000yards a season.

RE: Quarterbacks: Stats Alone

When evaluating one must look at the supporting talent pool on the team and then look at what was done with that pool, and against what defences?

Leinart would do real well on the 80's niners teams, somehow on the 2005 saints he would have looked worst than Bowman

RE: Quarterbacks: Stats Alone

That's the nice thing. He'll be playing (if drafted) with the 2006 Saints. We have no idea what that will really look like. So many questions to be answered.

Can Duece return to 03 form?
Can this new HC get the OL troubles sorted out?
Can our receivers actually remember thier job is to CATCH the ball?
Can our D go from middle of the pack to top ten?

That's what is SO GREAT about right now. We can hope and pray and speculate about the coming season. As fans we can either look at the history of the team and boo hoo about how this next team will suck. Or go into it with a clear prospective and hope this new HC can turn alot around. Is this a 7-9 team, or a 10-6, or even an amazing 13-3? We won't know. But it's going to be great to see what comes.

Your guys watch Croyle is going to suprise you all. I bet everything you guys are saying about Croyle they said about i don't know Jake Delhomme and Tom Brady. I'm sure that there are plenty of other QBs that people have said won't amount to a hill of beans and have turned out to be MVPs for their team.

RE: Quarterbacks: Stats Alone

Yes it will be great like I've said else where the past three years the last place team in the NFC South has won the Division. So lets hope history repeats itself.

My point was the guy has proven he clould win with one of the greatest essmbled cast of offenses put to gether in College against some of the worst defenses. That being said it is hard to compare his stats across to others. He definitly does not lack heart that is not the concern, his mobility and arm strength may not translate well thats all. But let the debate continue until well you knw.

RE: Quarterbacks: Stats Alone

You can't judge a college quarterback strictly by stats. If that were the case, then Carson Palmer didn't deserve to be drafted first overall. His senior year was his only "good" one. Looking at his overall body of work at USC, you could make the argument that he was an averege college quarterback.
