It'll take quite a while for anyone to make 30mil a year. If there is a year with no salary cap, there's already a rule in place that you can't get a raise of more than 30% from the prior year. Do the math, you're talking years before anyone is going to get near 30mil a year.

yeah, that lesson is how to pull a hockey players' association beat down. I'll bet the salary cap is lowered just to show who's boss. Those players make entirely too much money for what they do (or don't do).

The Saints would be screwed without a salary cap. Unfair advantages for big spending teams like the Cowboys and Giants. We'd be the new KC Royals of football.

CBA deadline has been extended to Monday....I'm just waiting for that one big surprise slary cap cut to drop like a hammer...Its gonna happen...You know its gonna happen...Dan Patrick is gonna see that flash across his screen and forget he is on the air and say "HOLY S**T"

SH!T happens I know, but there is no one paying to watch and electrician wire a building if you know what I mean. Not to many people would be willing to put up with the regiment day in and day out for a 60K salery. Not anymore. People like us are the ones that keep the owners making the cash so. If you stop watching and spending your dollars then, you can mount your own protest.

Seriously I was pointing out there is a great disparity in the salaries between the top end and the average player strait out of collecge, so in terms of the CBA for the low end (grunts lets call them) this is important.

And I am not knocking the other jobs you mentioned as I too work for a living.

Players and owners have a symbiotic relationship. The NFL as a league cannot exist without either. There's a multibillion dollar pot because of both. And the pot keeps getting bigger.

That given, the NFLPA's demands are outrageous. AFAICT they want the owners to throw in all the local money into the league pot (Total Gross Revenues) as opposed to the currently Defined Gross Revenues, which is currently licensing, ticket, and TV money. This is the revenue sharing piece.

Then on top of that, the players want a bigger slice of that bigger pie.

Now one or the other (or maybe a bit of both) may be reasonable. But to ask for both isn't. That's why the owners are balking.

The revenue piece is the big ticket item here. As more and more of the super rich owners leverage revenue outside of the DGR, you'll see more and more of a disparity between the haves and the have nots. In the current system players can go pretty much anywhere and have a shot at both excellent money and at least the possibility of winning. It isn't baseball.

So I figure that Upshaw will ease off of the 60 percent figure if the owners agree to something close to the TGR. Maybe something along the lines of 100 percent of the current DFR along with 75% of the rest of the revenue going into the league pot. Then agree to take 57% of that and call it a day.

This move will hurt big owners and help smaller markets and the players overall.

I would add something else. I'd bet that small, cheap owners would take the extra money and stick it in their pocket. So players should also insist that a certain percentage of the shared revenue go strictly to player salaries and football related operations. In short there should not only be a upper salary cap, but a lower one too. So you won't have teams like the Cards and the Vikes $25 million below the cap.

For this to work, both players and owners are going to have to give up something. The NFL's share and share alike CBA has made it be far the most powerful sports league. The TV contracts add up to something like $3.7 billion (yes with a B) a year. Everyone in the NFL is virtually a lottery winner.

So here's hoping that the knuckleheads on both sides don't screw this up.
