Question about Aaron Brooks

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I believe that Brooks is owed $6 million if he's not cut by the start of free agency, which would be Sunday night at 12:00pm. I could be wrong, but all the articles in other posts seem to point to ...

I could be wrong, but all the articles in other posts seem to point to that milestone. Either way, he's only good for a 6th or 7th, and for 6 large, the Saints could sign 2-3 quality defensive free agents and focus on the O for the draft.

His $6 mil is salary. He can be retained all the way up to the 53 man cut and not be paid.

The money more than anything else is why Brooks will be gone.

You're absolutely right, Euph...Brooks will beat out Bouman for some other team's 3rd string position later this year.

... yeah? And why is that? As reported, Aaron Brooks took every single snap in practice, and the only time Boumann had any snaps was with the practice squad... Boumann obviously is not Marino, but you cannot say with any degree of certainty that he wouldn't have been able to beat Brooks in camp had he been given ANY shot, nevermind a fair one, to win the spot..

..just because McCarthy and Haslett insisted of giving Brooks any and every opportunity and excuse they could for Brooks to remain the starter, going way beyond what any other team has done in the history of the NFL for any QB, doesn't mean that he can actually beat someone in competition...

... and no, he did NOT beat either Blake or Delhomme, because the coaching staff never allowed any competition...

I have to disagree with you... there was competition and Brooks was given the helm because he did well at it. Bouman played in games and it was scary at best... as a back up you have to be ready to go at any time and Bouman did not woo anyone. What he did prove is that an injured Brooks is a better Bouman any day. I didn't think Amac was a capable starter either this year but given his chances to develop into something. I don't think putting him in at any point this year would have been a good thing, part of the problem is that line and we have to address that not only for the qb's but for our running game as well. You can't put the problems of running and qb solely on the position. Deuce injured sure but that line has to share the responsiblity for its failures as well. If your line can't block why put someone behind them who for one is being developed and take the chance at getting them killed.

..if you want to fool yourself into thinking there was an actual competition for the position, go ahead...
... yes Boumann was scary, but how else can he look given that he NEVER got a SINGLE snap with the first team WHILE IN N.O , i.e., 3 seasons, .until he was declared the starter 3 quarters into the distaster that was the 2005 season?

True dat Tobias...they never gave him any competition...Non of the other qb's in camp took snaps with the first team ever...and hardly got any snaps in preseason, that say to me that for the last three years or so they were trying to amke him a starter and never could...we need a wide open competition in camp this year, I think we will get that with Payton

The fact that Bouman or AMAC didn't take too many practice snaps makes AB even worse in my opinion. The guy got everything handed to him and we all know he can't say he didn't get enough practice.
