Three Cowboys to hit free-agent market

IRVING – The decision by the NFL and the players union to delay the start of the league year until Monday has allowed the Cowboys more time to sign their free-agents-to-be, like Dan Campbell, Scott Fujita and Andre Gurode.

Not that it will matter any.

It appears all three players will hit the open market Monday, free to sign with anybody.

The Cowboys have exchanged proposals with the agents for Fujita and Gurode, but they have not made an offer to Campbell, their offensive captain last season. Whether any of the three returns to the Cowboys remains to be seen.

Fujita would seem to have the best chance of staying.

Gurode seemed to fall out of favor following the 2004 season, but the Cowboys liked his work at center last year.

New Orleans could be Campbell's most ardent suitor because of his previous relationship with Saints coach Sean Payton with the Cowboys and New York Giants.

"It looks like a done deal he won't be back," Campbell's agent, Leonard Roth said.

Campbell would definitely be a nice addition at TE and could serve as a change of pace at the position with Hilton. It seems inevitable that Bentley is going elsewhere, so Gurode might not be a bad pick-up, either. If only for depth.

Both would be good additions to the team. Experience and Campbell is a blocker, let Conwell go bye, bye and keep Meier and Hilton.

I don't think we should add a TE through free agency. We would be alright with Hilton, Meier, and Hall. We could add a young guy from the draft which is incredibly deep at the position. I've always like Gurode... he's a powerful run blocker. He would be a nice addition depth wise at least.
