Asking to take look at Leinart

Now that the Jets have restructured Chad Pennington's contract to ensure he'll be with them in 2006, they're on to their next order of business: finding his potential replacement.

Pennington's deal will keep him with the team for at least the coming season, but the Jets are considering drafting a quarterback with the fourth overall choice, or with a higher pick, if they trade up. Newsday has learned the Jets are making plans with the top quarterback prospects to work them out privately before next month's draft.

Leigh Steinberg, the agent for USC quarterback Matt Leinart, said yesterday the Jets have contacted him to set up a private workout sometime in April. Leinart is scheduled to have his pro day workout at USC on April 2. It's uncertain whether the Jets would stage the workout in California or New York.

very interesting....either they are thinking about trading up or they just want to be ready in case the saints and titans both pass up on leinart, which is a possibility. the saints could draft cutler and titans draft young leaving leinart for them. that would be dumb on both the saints and titans part, but it is a possible scenario.

It would be poetic justice to have the Jets trade up to get Lienart. Would we really not draft Bush in that event? Would it really matter in the end who we end up with at #1 given all the other glaring needs (like in the O-line)?

I'd be happy if we traded the #2 to the Jets... maybe we can get Ditka to mediate the deal on the Jets behalf setting us up with their entire draft for the #2 pick

..may not be so bad.. maybe the Texans are set on Bush... if they are, the Jets would have to trade with the Saints... Saints move back to #4 and pick AJ, then package what they got from the Jets into Jay Cutler this year or Brady Quinn next...

lol....we should draft aj hawk this year and brady quinn next year....that way quinn's sister will be here no matter what.

Jets are really interested in Ramsey and are the front runners right now to sign him. Mike and Mike in the morning on ESPN radio had him all but signed with the Jets. It's not a done deal but it looks like Ramsey to the Jets for a 4th or 5th round pick. If this does happen, no way they trade up for Leinart if they have Ramsey and Penny.
