Scott Fujita has scheduled visit

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Yahoo Sports and Scout.com are saying that OLB Scott Fujita is coming for a visit. I think he's a step up and would be a welcome addition to the team. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/nor...

I've heard that name. I hear he is pretty solid. Lets see....any Saints activity is a step in the right direction.

Fujita....solid, not spectacular or dominant. I don't know how he would fare as the leader of an LB corps. Definitely an upgrade though.

Haha yes, definitely an upgrade. My family lives in Dallas so I got to see a couple of Cowboys games this year, and Fujita was not spectacular but very solid. Here's a scouting report on him:

Fujita is a tall rangy linebacker who has long arms. He delivers a great blow and plays with good leverage on the line of scrimmage. He has a knack for getting rid of blockers and does not stay blocked. He finds a way to get to the ball. He has very good upper body strength and has very good block protection. He is a long strider who shows the ability to run plays down from behind. He can accelerate to finish a play and shows good ability to come off the edge and challenge the offensive tackle to the corner. He does an excellent job of getting hands on and re-routing receivers and shows good awareness in zone coverage. He is fluid in his movement and does a good job with play recognition. He is somewhat vulnerable to low blocks and does not have the initial foot quickness or the running ability to stay with tight ends beyond a short area. However, he plays with good intelligence and takes advantage of angles. He has good change of direction skills and gets a great break on the ball. He is a very aggressive hitter who wraps his arms on the ball carrier. He plays with a good level of intensity and is a very productive player.
ESPN.com has graded him as a 72 which means "good starter." They also have him listed as the 8th best sleeper FA this year. Another good thing about him is that he has NEVER missed a start. With all of the injuries that our crappy LBs have had, a little bit of consistency would be nice.

quite a few here were banging the drum for him before last season. very few free agent LB signings could not be an upgrade. one real NFL LB addition has been a MUST for too many years now.

A couple things I forgot to mention. He is graded as the 7th best LB FA this year. Also, you can't overlook the connection that Fujita and Payton/Gibbs might have. All were with the Cowboys last year and Fujita might feel comfortable with Payton leading the way and Gibbs as his defensive coordinator.

ESPN.com also said

Has never missed a game in his career, and it's somewhat puzzling why Kansas City gave up on him and traded him to the Cowboys. Has played in a 4-3 and 3-4, owns a big frame, is pretty stout versus the run. Started just eight games in 2005, but had 58 tackles and two sacks.
Sounds like he would make a nice addition.

he got his start in K.C., where he started a few years, before signing with Dallas last year. The Cowboys are interested in bringing him back.
