Don't get me wrong, he is a HUGE upgrade from what we had, but I am now more sure than ever that Matt Leinart is going to have a Hall of Fame career. Also, unless Leinart wows the Jets or Raiders, there is a very good chance that we will be stuck with the number 2 pick. While these teams may want to trade up, both teams can now stay put and still get one of the big 3 if that's the direction they choose. I am a huge NY Yankee fan so I'm used to overpaying for players. But atleast with the Yanks, I can tell myself, "Well besides the money, they came here to win now and be a part of the most storied franchise in all of sports." With the Saints, I know the guy came here just for the money. I hope I'm wrong and Brees only gets better as a qb and does for us what he did for SD and then some (Super Bowl championship). Unfortunately, I can't help but think this isn't a signing that is going to lead us to a Super Bowl. Here's to wasting the #2 pick on the 2nd best linebacker in the big 12 from last year or on another DE. Atleast with the money I'm going to save from buying a Leinart jersey I can use to get wasted watching Drew Brees float passes the way a NY qb I see every sunday do

I also have serious misgivings about Drew Brees, though mine all stem from the injury. What I fear is that next off-season, the argument will be over why Brees didn't deliver in his first year with the Saints.

Just the same, I will be happy as a clam to eat crow if I am wrong about this.

welcome back sapper i appreciate what you have done for us. thank you. um why do people keep talking about us talking another de. i mean i know we got rid of howard but smith and grant are just fine. lets get a line backer a dt and some o line help with our three picks. or maybe it will be our first 4 picks if we trade down donkey lovers

I'm glad we signed him and I still think we're going to draft Leinart... doesn't this practically look like a 1 year deal to anyone? If he doesn't play well, we cut him after the season to avoid that 12 million dollar roster bonus and insert Leinart. We're giving him a lot of money his first two years... I say he last one so Leinart can learn the offense. And if he does stay for over two years, either one will be a very tradeable commodity. In other words, I'm still for drafting Leinart. 8)

I just don't think that we can take Leinart anymore. QB used to be our biggest hole, but now with the addition of Brees, we have other holes that have become more glaring (LB,DT,OL,CB). We have so many holes that we need to fill, that we need to fill the ones that aren't currently occupied by a Pro Bowler.
