we would have to say how it was worked. i just hope the guy is ready to go first game.

RE: Breaking News Brees signed with us

News articles say 4-5 months before he's 100%... Worst case in that situation places it at mid-August. Two pre-Season games to warm up at game speed. I'm strangely OK with that. He's a smart guy that can pick up the offensive scheme on paper while rehabing.

FrenzyFan 03-14-2006 01:15 PM

Well, what's done is done and I am hoping we haven't made a terrible mistake. I like Drew Brees and the way he played the game in SD, as well as his attitude. Not too sure about his attitude coming to N.O., especially when I see this:

Quote:

When the news about Culpepper's trade went through the league, Drew Brees decided he would put his name on the bottom line of a contract with the Saints.
http://www.nfl.com/nflnetwork/story/9300482

Of course, that's just a sportwriter at NFL.com, but the way he writes it makes me feel like we were the last guy picked in dodgeball.

Also a little worried about his shoulder, considering I've seen it printed in more than one place that its possible he won't be able to throw at all this year.

Nevertheless, he's paid and we have a QB that, if healthy enough to play, is good enough to manage a game and not lose it for us. Long way better than Brooks, so I can't complain too much.

Hope all the hype plays out to be true.

I waited a LONG time to have my two cents, so here it is!

I was Pro Brees all the way. I was hoping we'd go after him last year but then he stayed with the Bolts. I think he has the character and leadership this team needs.

The shoulder debate? We'll have to wait and see? Am I the only one that was appaled he was even playing in that last game!

From what I hear it was Stupid politicts and pride from the coach that kept Rivers out of that game, Bree should never have been in there.

Can't wait to see him in a Saints jersey!

jergensl 03-14-2006 01:19 PM

brees will be a solid starter for us for the next few years

From what I have been told is 12mil for 6yrs. He supposedly called the Saints and thold them he was signing with the Dolphins and we upped the deal to 12 mil he then called the Dolphins to see what they could counter with and they could not go any higher. So, he signed with the Saints. What a fine scent the Brees is blowing into the city today. What a glorious day. Hallifreakinljua

maximkat 03-14-2006 01:22 PM

been a brees fan since forever, go purdue, go saints!

yasoon 03-14-2006 01:23 PM

six years....60 million

now for the report from the Dolphins team doctor that he was unable to throw a tissue into the trash can from 2 feet away.

TheDeuce 03-14-2006 01:25 PM

6 years, $60 million, with $10 million signing bonus

Well apparently our doctors looked at him too and I don't think we'd sign this guy if he isn't going to be ready for opening day

dwiley21 03-14-2006 01:26 PM

I heard it on Dan Patrick as well. 6 yr 60 mil 10 mil signing bonus. So now what do we do about the backup situation. Please tell me Bouman will be gone as well! Do the Saints still try to sign Mcnown as an insurance policy? And with these two signings what does the cap situation look like now?

yasoon 03-14-2006 01:28 PM

I'm just being a jaded a-hole. I like the signing.

jergensl 03-14-2006 01:29 PM

this gives us the freedom to try and trade down a few spots and draft hawk. if no one is willing to trade with us, i say we still take hawk. he is a stud lb who ran 4.38 time in the 40 and he is from my hometown of dayton. haha

deucerulez 03-14-2006 01:38 PM

keep the pick, sweet talk with houston to give us bush, trade deuce and his injuries, ill change my name, and we will all be happy!!! :airguitar:

New Orleans Saints 2006 NFC South Division Champions...Print up the freakin t-shirts

Every year the analysts look at the Saints talent and say maybe, their loaded to the gills with talent in the right spots...then they see that giant freakin retard on the sideline squirtin' water on people when they are behind by 15 points and say what the hell was I thinkin...Now they are going to see a fired up intense competitor...Fact Brees is a competitor...Look at the turn around he made after his second and third seasons
...He was challenged and he stepped, more than anything I like that about the guy...When did AB step up his game from pressure...never in a way that mattered

gandhi1007 03-14-2006 02:30 PM

Jergs, Hawk's not that fast. His fastest recorded time was 4.42 at Pro Day at Ohio State (March 9th) with most watches cathing him at 4.49. He ran a 4.51 at the combine. These are still great times for a LB, but 4.38? That's what put Vernon Davis into the top 15 (4.38/ 40 time).

jrmllb 03-14-2006 02:42 PM

Check this out, who is the jacka** running the Saints webpage...wow 250 yards passing in six games

http://www.neworleanssaints.com/

uuhh he screwed to pooch on that one

mighty12 03-14-2006 02:51 PM

The one thing that bothers me is that the Kffl.com has stated that the Saints are shopping around a trade right now to move down in the draft. Wouldn't the smart thing be to say we WILL STILL draft a QB with our pick to make teams give up more to trade up. If the Jets, Titans, or Raiders know that we WILL NOT pick a QB don't you think they are going to sit at their pick to get one of the highly touted QBs. This kills me. I do, however really love the Brees pickup. I think he will bring us to the playoffs, and put butts in the seats.

FanNJ 03-14-2006 03:03 PM

WAY 2 MUCH UP FRONT MONEY. WAY 2 MUCH.

SaintsJam 03-14-2006 03:04 PM

ESPNews just reported that the first year breaksdown as a 8 million signing bonus and a base salary this year of 2 million. They also stated that in the contract there is a clause for them to option out if he does not play a certain number of games because of the shoulder injury. That would really make us look smart.

Sorry no link it was just discussed on the Hot List.

Brees agrees to six-year deal with SaintsBy John Clayton

Early in his career, there were questions about Drew Brees having a slow release.

That wasn't the case Tuesday when he pulled the trigger on a six-year, $60 million deal with the New Orleans Saints that included a $8 million signing bonus and a 2006 base salary of $2 million.

The contract includes a $12 million option bonus due next spring and a base salary of $3 million for 2007.

Brees' decision came within seconds of the Dolphins dropping out of the bidding when they traded a second-round choice for Daunte Culpepper. All along, the Saints had more money and more guarantees on the table for Brees and wanted to use his name as the marquee for ticket sales, sales that have been hot because of the Saints' return to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.

Even though the Saints will be looking at Matt Leinart in the draft, they have Brees as their starting quarterback. That puts the Saints in the position to possible trade down from the No. 2 spot and take defensive end Mario Williams or simply take the North Carolina State defensive end.

Brees comes to New Orleans with high recommendations. Cowboys coach Bill Parcells has always been a big fan of Brees and advised his former assistant, Sean Payton, to take Brees if he had the chance. Payton is the new coach of the Saints.

Brees rejected the Dolphins' idea of lowering his demands for guarantees because the Saints made a promise to his agent, Tom Condon. In the end, Brees didn't budge and he ended up going to the Saints.

FanNJ 03-14-2006 03:07 PM

That would make us look smart but that still a hell of a lot of money for Brees. Then again, I am an optomist.. I guess I'll be getting a new Jersey this year to go along with My W Smith that came 4 weeks after X-Mass
