Jets and Redskins break off talks for trade with Ramsey

In my estimation this information is the clearest indication that the Jets want Leinart and are going to trade up to get him. They know Pennington's arm is shot and he is not the future. They need a big name in the draft to compete with Eli's appeal, and Leinart is telling everyone under the sun he wants to play for the Jets. I think when it's all said and done the Jets trade to get Leinart, the Titans take Young and we take D'Brick with the number 4 pick. We then pick up two of the three LB, CB, or DT with our two second rounders. The Ramsey trade falling through is the kicker to all of this.

a bidding war between them is easy to imagine, the gate appeal for the marquee name in NY and Humdingeringer reunited with his pupil in TN. do not discount the influence of an OC with previous connection. i think Carmichael here and the input from Parcells were vital to getting Brees.

By the charts we get more than a 2nd too. most teams wouldn't wanna give 1-2-3 but another 2nd in '07 is completely reasonable. they both have players that could be thrown in too.

RE: Jets and Redskins break off talks for trade with Ramsey

Everyone seems so sure the Jets are going to trade up to #2. I don't think it's going to be as easy as some people think. The Jets cutting off talks with the Skins for Ramsey is a sign they are interested in going qb but that's not a definate. I believe that the Jets are more willing to trade up to #1. If they trade up to #2 who's to say the Titans won't jump to #1. The Texans would love that scenario because they want Mario Williams and that would mean we would have #4 and they would have #3 and they would get their guy, Mario, plus extra picks. Anyways, the only way I see someone trading up, is to get Leinart and I believe the Titans and Jets both have Leinart as their clear cut top choice. Vince Young's stock has fallen and the Titans and Jets have to be wondering if he is worth a top 4 pick. If any of these teams really want Leinart, they'll trade up to #1 to make sure they get him. If the Texans aren't asking for that much more than us, it seems like if these teams have any brains, they'll go straight to the top, guaranteeing themselves Leinart on draft day.

personally i think schaub would be a great take for a 2nd rd pick- anywhere. i dunno how much i believe those rumors though. as fragile as ron mexico is they need a solid replacement.

...that got me thinking (oh no!)...
in fact, i think vick will lose his luster and end up closer to the kordell stewart hall of what might have been. he falls out with mora. he is traded to the raiders. schaub turns into a tough competitor in the nfc south.

And then we can either pick Reggie Bush or field the littany of frantic trade offers we'll get after this shocker trade. We still come out ahead.

RE: Re: RE: Jets and Redskins break off talks for trade with

I'd be very happy with Bush, with the signing of Brees I'd love to see him in black and gold. I just think once someone trades up to get Leinart it will be very difficult to trade our pick and get equal value. Bush has the potential to be a special player, but I don't think anyone would be willing to trade up to get him. So, what I'm saying is if the Texans do trade down, we're picking at #2, which I'm fine with.

LivnaLieTimay it is tricky. i think houston and us are not dead set on one player. both probably want the bpa a few notches lower with addition of a few draft picks. it is more likely a trade for houston's pick would be before the draft since that is a sure thing, no one in front. ours is more likely on draft day unless overwhelmed with a package deal. BUT houston has to worry about where they drop to if trading first. if they want mario (or d'brick i think more likely) then NO is in front of them to snap the guy up. also, say if TN or NYJ moved to #1 with leinart as the target... woohoo, we can take bush or peddle him down below to 5-6-7 GB-SF-OAK. so in a wacky kinda way i think we are in the driver's seat and have more if not better options than HOU. too crazy?

I have never been so sure in my life that a team is going to take a player #1 as I am about the Texans taking Reggie Bush. If anyone is trading up to number 1 it is to get Bush not Leinart. We hold the key to this draft at number 2 due to the fact that Bush is rated so much higher than anyone else in this draft. The Titans or Jets will deal. Personally I think we should get two number 1's for this deal. Much like the Giants did when they got Eli from San Diego and had to give up a 1st the following year.

Exactly. We are still in the driver's seat, just like all the experts are saying. I think GB, SF, or Oakland would isht their pants if Houston didn't draft Reggie Bush. We would definitely get more offers, because ANY team in the league could use Bush.
