Saints | Team interested in Ashworth
Sat, 18 Mar 2006 07:18:11 -0800

The Boston Globe reports the New Orleans Saints are showing some interest in free agent OL Tom Ashworth (Patriots). There has been nothing reported concerning a visit to New Orleans.
He's not dominating like Brick, but takes a lot of time to prepare. Gives good effort and out works DEs. Might be a good replacement for Gandy if we decide not to draft Brick. If we are interested we need to move quick though, he's already scheduled to meet with the Titans and Texans.

Dolphins | Team only discussed preliminary numbers with Arrington; price is too high
Sat, 18 Mar 2006 07:16:13 -0800

Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins have spoken with free agent LB LaVar Arrington (Redskins) and preliminary numbers were discussed, according to an NFLPA source. The Dolphins' priority is clearly Arrington, who visited last week. But Arrington's asking price is reported to be in the $6 million-a-year range, which is probably too rich for Miami.
I wonder at this point in free agency if anyone but Arizona has this kind of money to offer? If we switched to 3-4 and he would come off the price a bit, I'd be really pleased to sign him.

Packers | Vinatieri leaves town without an offer
Fri, 17 Mar 2006 22:34:42 -0800

Michael Felger, of the Boston Herald, reports free agent PK Adam Vinatieri (Patriots) left Green Bay Friday night, March 17, without a contract offer from the Green Bay Packers following a two-day visit. The prevailing wisdom was that the Packers were serious about offering Vinatieri a mega-deal; otherwise the visit would not have taken place. Vinatieri is likely looking for the largest deal ever given to a kicker, which would mean an annual salary well over $2 million per season and a signing bonus north of $3 million.
Not saying we should pay him crazy money, but the guy is the greatest clutch kicker in history. As many games that we've lost by 1-3 pts I'd like to have a guy we can count on.

He'd be our best K in quite some time. I've never understod teams paying cheap for their HIGHEST point maker. He (Vinatieri) would be great on the turf and with his experience outside would be able to do well out there too. His made percentage would skyrocket (not like it was bad to start with).
