Peter Sirmon, LB, Titans?

Titans | Team exploring options with Sirmon
Thu, 30 Mar 2006 13:11:24 -0800

Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports Tennessee Titans general manager Floyd Reese said he has spoken to LB Peter Sirmon's agent recently. "Right now we are looking at all options," said Reese. There is still a chance that the team could waive Sirmon, who has asked to be released after the Titans signed LB David Thornton.
Any consensus on the guy if the Titans waive him?

Decent player. 7 years in the league. Nothing too special though. Could be a decent low-key signing.

Good point papz, very similar to Fujita. Here's a scouting report:

He is a smart player - good feel for the game and shows instincts to get to the football. He plays with a solid motor - good pursuit player that will get over the top and make plays outside the numbers. He is not explosive but he is a solid hitter and wrap up tackler. Good feel in coverage - solid route awareness in zone coverage. He has enough foot quickness to match-up in m/m situations. Not real stout but willing to step into the hole vs. the inside run. Plays with good leverage taking on the TE in the run game. Needs to become a better blitzer from sub-packages - gets washed to easily trying to fit through gaps. Needs to become a quicker shed LB - not real big or physical, and can get bounced playing inside.
I'd actually pass on this guy. He's too similar to Fujita, and his tackles have declined every year since he became a starter.

No, I say wait.

If a guy like Sirmon is still out there, then we have a good chance to get him later if we need him. We've made decent moves for depth in FA so far, set ourselves up w/ the biggest chip in the game at the draft (and that's with the #2 pick) by gettin Brees and had a quiet, event free off-season.

I think next step is to draft for effect, then wait and see what gets cut June 1. I have a feeling some good names will come open then, for a lot less than right now.
