We’re less than a month away from the 2006 NFL draft, and there is much conjecture about what the New Orleans Saints will do with their early draft choices.

Looking back over the past 40 years, there have been more "misses" than "hits" on draft day, but here are my choices for the 10 best draft day decisions by the New Orleans Saints

Jeff Faine, C from Browns who went to Notre Dame? I would love to have him. Plays with a real mean streak. Hasn't played much thuogh, lost out of position battle I believe. But started when the other guy got injured.

So if we get Faine and the Jest give up their two first rounders who do we select at 29? Mangold would still be an option, but what other talent could be there?

whole lotta options m12. Hawk or Brick at #4 is my hope. For #29 and #34 you can fill in LB, OT, CB, DT. Whatever isn't taken at #4 I like Ryans, Sims, Howard, Hodge, and Jackson at LBs in that range. McNeil, Scott, or Winston at OT. Youboty, Cromartie, Joseph, Jennings CBs. I'd love Wroten at #34, maybe Wright too at DT.

Yeah I think Wroten has alot of skills, and LSU has been known recently for putting some good defensive players in the NFL. I love the Faine pickup, if we can get him, because that would mean we can get Da Brick and have a solid line. This would give us a BPA advantage in the early picks. If we can't get Brick and we do get Hawk that is good too. We would need an OT though. I like Pope at TE, maybe Greenway at LB, If someone from the top 10-15 drops at 29 like FSUs Ernie Sims then that is the player. There are just SO many options if we pick up Faine and Da Brick. I really like have options

In History? Hmmm...well I guess what comes to mind for me is trading Ricky for a first round draft pick while we acquired McAllister. That rocked. We got a great RB....lost the psycho...and got a first rounder in the process.

It was even better, 2002 first round and 2003 3rd round that escalated to another 1st with performance clauses.

There should be more trades like that.

Just for an example, since there is a current Stallworth trade thread- Stallworth for a 2006 3rd round pick. Then add a 2007 4th round pick. But that would escalate to a 3rd if he is active for 10 or more games, 2nd if he makes 60 catches or 750 yds, and to a 1st if he makes 80 catches or 1000 yds.

Call the Colts and Mora genisus for drafting Payton Manning... but the real credit should go to the '71 Saints for drafting the first Manning.

A third and a forth for Stallworth? You better duck bro.

LOL I didn't say I was a proponemt of such a deal, just forwarding that as an example. But wouldn't a 3rd and a potential 2007 1st rounder be cool if he did well? That is the point, a 3rd and a 2007 4th if he is a flop somewhere in 2006. The better he does the more you get next draft. Again, not for moving Stallworth, just pointing out the reasonableness of such trade propositions.
