It's going to be murder.....

the next three weeks. Thank God there's a mini-camp or something in between to keep us occupied. I don't anticipate much movement on the FA front. I also don't think a trade will be announced, if there is a trade, until after Texas makes their pick or trade announcement. Why? Because the Saints would be absolutely insane to make the trade prior to the draft. I'm sure they'll pick Bush if he's available unless they're so in love with Super Mario, DaBrick, Hawk, or someone else. So hang in there...listen to all of the noise about one player or another and stock up on whatever it is you like to drink because one thing is for sure, Saturday, April 29th is going to be an exciting day for Saints fans all over the world!

RE: It

The way Mel Kiper keeps talking, it sounds like we're going to draft Mario Williams. I think that would be one of the worst moves ever, for obvious reasons, but that's all Kiper's been freakin talking about for the last couple of weeks.

patdog 04-05-2006 11:13 AM

Yo I need to know if the mini camp will be open to the public?

TalmanGardnerCousin 04-05-2006 01:08 PM

Yes both of them will be opened to the public

FatiusJeebs 04-05-2006 01:16 PM

Deuce....I'm just curious. Why, if we really need some DL help, would getting Mario be a bad idea?

Cause he's a DE. Why in the world would we take ANOTHER DE, and then try to move him to DT. We tried that with Darren Howard, and Charles Grant. No thanks. I'd rather trade downand get bunkley or Ngata, who are DTs and are built like DTs if we are gonna go that route. Forget Mario. You know who's on the other side of Peppers? Mike freaking Rucker. That guy blows. But Peppers still gets his. We have a Peppers in Will Smith AND we have a guy who is better than Rucker in Charles Grant. If we want a DT, draft one. But NO WAY on taking a DE, and converting him to DT or using him in a rotation, that high in the draft. No thanks.

FatiusJeebs 04-05-2006 02:28 PM

Hey whodi.....I posted this idea on another thread. Why not make him a LB? I mean at 6'7 the guy would do enough damage just for visibility purposes alone....let alone pass rushing and run coverage.
Food for thought.

jergensl 04-05-2006 02:33 PM

mario wouldn't be my first option, but wouldn't be a bad pick either. it would give the saints the ability to rotate 3 DEs throughout the game to keep them fresh. will and mario could be used more on passing downs and charles and will on rushing downs. either way...having fresh DE's in the 4th quarter to wear out OT's would be great.

this would also limit the rookie growing pains mario might experience.

At 6'7" 295? No way in hell would I do that. Has there been a 295 LB in the NFL since Levon Kirkland? And I think he only topped 275.

I don't think there is any way int he world you take a DE for a rotation at number two in the draft.

Euphoria 04-05-2006 04:14 PM

yeah thats nuts... you wanna get a player who will play more downs for you... not come in on certain situations or downs. You need an everydown player, BRICK.

AllSaints 04-05-2006 04:23 PM

Yeah im not understanding the whole Mel Kiper on Mario i mean he think charles grant sucks..... he didnt have a great year last year but i mean who did.......... It would be smart to take Ferguson or Hawk......

saintswhodi 04-05-2006 04:29 PM

Do people realize Charles Grant was prob double teamed more than anyone on our defense last year, coming off the year he had in 2004? I went to the three games in San Antonio, Grant is a fiery guy on the field, and he ALWAYS is trying to hype up the crowd or get the D fired up. Noone should be down on this guy. He'll bounce back since people will start having to pay more attention to Will. There is no need for Mario at all.

TalmanGardnerCousin 04-05-2006 04:36 PM

I really like Charles Grant I think he's a good player I use to always talk to him at party's when me and TG would go, I really love how he tries to pump the crowd up, he never let the saints down on the field so I would never say anything bad about him. He is great for our lockerroom so Charles keep ya head up boy we holding you down.

Good point whodi. Sure he would be a freak with that combination of size and 4.6 speed at the LB position. However, there's more to it than that. First, he'd have to learn how to play LB, and it's a lot different than DE in terms of technique and recognizing plays. Also, there's a lot more physically to playing the LB position. Having 4.6 speed might be good for a DE who takes straight lines to the QB or down the line, but a LB has to have good fluidity in his hips and the ability to change directions. I'm sure he has good change of direction ability just because he's really athletic, but I don't think it's up to par compared to the better LBs in the league.

Thank you. I'm just glad some people realize how good Grant truly is, not only on the field, but also in the lockerroom.

Yeah they may have tried Howard at DT, but he was undersized for the job. At 6'7, 295 pounds (and likely able to grow 10-15 lbs.) with that kind of speed and ability, Williams may be the next iteration of DT. Of course you don't draft him with the intent of rotating, but hell, with a line rush of Grant, Smith Williams and who-the-hell-else ('sept Sully), what QB isn't going to crap on himself?! Besides, think about how much easier our LB blitz packages are with that kind of line!

in 2000 we had Glover on the line wearking up people's gameplans. He's 6'2 and had never played above 295. Plus he's not nearly the athlete we are looking at in Williams. Hell, Cleamons and Johnson got HUGE FA deals off of the havoc Glover was able to create. Whatever happened to them? that's right....

*once again, I DON'T think this should be our first choice, but if it did happen (dear God, no) just playing DA.

Glover also had one hell of a motor & was like 6% body fat. Not your average DT for that size.

BiggPoppaFro4 04-05-2006 10:07 PM

Exactly.

GoldRush26 04-05-2006 10:29 PM

Well I agree that we don't need Mario Williams....taking him would be FAR from the worst move ever. The guy is supposed to be on some Julius Peppers shizit. I haven't seen him play, but he'd probably be the best defensive player we had right off the bat(not that hard on this squad). All of that talk about Will Smith to LB could have some meaning. It's not like we would be doomed or haunted from taking him. Not saying I'm for this pick, because I'm not, but we could do a lot worse.

That being said I think we are taking D'Brick still. When have the "experts" ever had the Saints pick right?
