speaking of picks next year

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; how about this? we trade the #2 overall for the Jets #4 overall and a first round pick in next years draft... point value matches up perfectly #2 2600 for #4 - 1800 and first next year -800 pts 2600 ...

speaking of picks next year

how about this? we trade the #2 overall for the Jets #4 overall and a first round pick in next years draft... point value matches up perfectly #2 2600 for #4 - 1800 and first next year -800 pts 2600 to 2600... plus we know that regardless of who the JETS pick... they still wont be a very good team and wont make the playoffs... they just have too many holes.... so in all actuallity we could end up with a extra top 5 pick next year

RE: speaking of picks next year

I would go for it if they throw in 3(71) 235pts or both 4 (103, 117) 154 pts.
Though 4 (103) and 5 (138) 129 pts. is tempting too. we would not seem greedy and that would give the picks we need to move around the rest of the draft. There is some good talent in the 3-5 in this years draft at positions we need.
Plus we package both #1 next year for Quinn. Pick AJ at 4 and we land the sister/girlfriend for our viewing pleasure.
I still think 34 is up for sale unless say one of the round 1 guys we need slips to us in the second. Then add all the trade roomers and I see us packaging picks and players also. this could be fun!

RE: speaking of picks next year

If I was the Saints front office, I'd be asking for the #4 and #29 picks.

This is the deepest draft in years. Not that i'd be against picks for next year, but the more we can get for this year, the better.

well i know this draft is deep and that is Y i dont think the Jets will want to give up picks this year but we know that they will be terrible reguardless... they are a terrible team right now and will likely be in the top 10 of the draft next year so if we do trade with them and take #4 and let them keep #29 but we pick up say a top 10 pick next year then that is a great deal for us i mean they would have to not only make the playoffs but get to the afc championship next year for us to not get a better pick then 29 out of the deal... ya see what im saying

and brady quinn? please... he is more overrated then matt leinert....he isnt even gonna be on the top 3 qbs taken next year... watch...

I hear ya on the Jets not wanting to give the picks, but I honestly think the GM is sold on Leinart and wants to see him v. Manning for them NY dollars. It's thin, but that's really the only logic strand getting us that deal.

Still, I think it's enough. I know Mangini and Co. found a diamond in the rough, but that's once in a million, and he was one hit from discovery, or never being heard of. Leinart can help fill the Meadowlands on name alone. That can make that signing bonus easier to swallow.

Again, I know, it's thin, like paper thin....

...like all the Brady Quinn hype...at least give him another good year before he's Montana pt. II

Now my next question though is: lets say Houston does brain-fart and actually PICKS someone not named reggie bush...how fast do you think the Jets and GB (the two next teams with the biggest need at RB) get on the horn and offer us the farm?

I'll take that bet. Not a top 3 QB in the draft next year??? All ND will have to do is make a BCS bowl and he'll be a top 5 overall pick for sure. True he's overrated but he'll still be the first QB taken.

While the Jets have 6 picks in the top 103, the team has serious and numerous holes to fill on both sides of the ball. Assuming that they'll be terrible next year (I'm not, but let's assume) they won't be in a rush to add more risk by giving up the opportunity. There are 3 quality qb's on the team, having just aquired Ramsey for a 6th! They are a team just like the Saints who need to homegrow a LOT of talent within their system and who fall in their budget. They're going to be dramatically better next year by keeping the selection order they have and see how things fall out. My guess is that if they feel like they'll make out better by adding an additional qb, they may do so after the draft entirely, or just draft whomeve fails to be selected by either NO or TN. They don't have to draft for this need and can take the BPA.

Just so you know, there's a 10 year waiting list for Jets tickets, and they hardly need any one player to "fill the Meadowlands." The Jets fans will watch that sucky team in a driving snowstorm just to see if a camera catches a greasy green painted Man-Boob for ESPN. They'll make out vs. the Giants by winning and winning alone.

Xan is right when it comes to the Jets. The reason they sucked last year is they lacked dephth at the Quarterback position. Liteerally losing 1 & 2 in a matter of 5 minutes apart devistated the team. The D is still fairly solid, and I feel Ramsey will do fine in the system. Pennington probably won't start. I really don't hear the clammoring for Leinart in this area, as most fans I talk to don't want Chad part duex, Whithe there early picks they can get a running back, some oline help, a QB prospect and some secondary or D-line help. More than anything the Jets need to fine the replacement for Curtis as he is getting up there in age, that being said his numbers where down due to the fact that there were 8 to 9 in the box all last year once 50 year old QB's and third stringers were playing. You can't run an offense that way, nor will a defense be able to stop the opponent on constant three and outs with no field position, so there is no gaurentee that the Jets will yeild a top 5 pick next year. I also must state that I hate the jets so this is comming from a neutral source
