49ers have 2 1sts

49ers | First-round pick acquired from Broncos
Wed, 19 Apr 2006 09:39:46 -0700

The Denver Broncos have announced the team has acquired a second-round pick (No. 37 overall) and a third-round pick (No. 68) in the 2006 NFL Draft from the San Francisco 49ers. In exchange for the picks, Denver sends San Francisco one of their two first-round picks (No. 22 overall).

If the Texans don't take Bush, hopefully they give those picks to us for him, plus a treasure or two for next year. Then maybe Hawk falls to us at 6. Me likey.

TheDeuce 04-19-2006 01:08 PM

Whodi, do you think the 49ers would want to trade up all that way to get Bush?

pakowitz 04-19-2006 01:10 PM

it gonna cost more then the 2 firsts....

TheDeuce 04-19-2006 01:12 PM

Hey pak, at this point, I'd be happy with two firsts....

Well, he was Alex Smith's high school teammate, and he is from Cali. The 49ers have NO marquis names on their team right now. Reggie Bush brings that to them. Their RBs are suspect as well. As long as the 49ers have been existence, they have seemed to always have an offensive star of some sort. Now they don't. Bush brings the fans back tot hem, and having him in Cali, grows their fan base. They may not want him, but I can see reasons why they would.

And I agree with you, if we are gonna get nothing to trade down, i'd take their two firsts, and as I added, some treasure for next year, maybe a two and three. It would be better than getting nothing at all. Plus, if necessary, we could trade back from 22 and get more picks for the second and third round. Or just simply take a very good player right there. It all depends on what we are offered IMO.

JimBone 04-19-2006 01:34 PM

While i am not disagreeing with anyone, i cant understand the 49ers philosophy here. Now all they have are 2 picks on the first day. Why would they give up their first day of the draft to move up to take someone that may or may not be there? This move may have made sense on draft day, but i dont understand it right now. They are far and away the least talented team in the league and you would think they would want to get as many new players as possible. Oh well, so goes the saga of the 49ers.

saintswhodi 04-19-2006 01:38 PM

I have to agree with everything you said there. I don't think it makes any sense what the 49ers just did. BUT, if they felt they didn't have enough ammo to get Bush, maybe they are trying to acquire it. Two firsts are worth more than a first, second, and third. But if they aren't trying to move up for a player, I can not understand it at all. That's the only reason I think they may be targeting Bush.

pakowitz 04-19-2006 01:38 PM

maybe its b/c they have so many holes to fill that it doesnt matter how many picks they have it still wouldnt help so they decided to get high picks to get some "better" talent into their roster...taking quality over quantity...

JimBone 04-19-2006 01:41 PM

Well, it also helps to assure me that we arent the most poorly run franchise in the league. If they do decide to move up again, they have mortgaged this draft and more than likely, their next draft, for one player. Thats unheard of...wait...where have i seen this before?

pakowitz 04-19-2006 01:45 PM

lol

Could be, but I am not buying that. Only because the draft is so deep, they could have gotten quality players with their second and third. So now they are gonna just hang their hat on two? I think they will either move up to get Bush, or now that I think about it, maybe they are thinking of trading back from 6, and know they will pick up a second and third rounder in doing so. Also, they will still have a first at 22.

pakowitz 04-19-2006 01:48 PM

but Y trade ur 2nd n 3rd for a first if ur just gonna move back again...

JimBone 04-19-2006 01:48 PM

Thats a lot of hoping to do 10 days before the draft. Thats why i say the deal may have made more sense on draft day...but that is why i dont run an NFL team. Those guys know more than me.

Ok, they traded their second and third for a first. Still with me? If they move back, THEY STILL HAVE A FIRST. And for a pick in the top 6, they should be able to draw some pretty good picks in return. That's all I am saying. Trading back from 6 should net them another second and third, or another mid-to late round first and a second. So then instead of a first, second, and third, they would have two firsts, and a second. I dunno, the deal doesn't really make actual sense to me unless they are trying to get Bush. I hope they are, and I hope he falls to us. I'd take the 49ers to the cleaners.

pakowitz 04-19-2006 01:56 PM

maybe if they dropped like 10 spots... but i dont think they would do that... otherwise they will likely only get at possible 3rd...

Boogro 04-19-2006 02:24 PM

It also seems Denver has targeted a certain player. I am thinking Davis or Jackson there. Good move for Denver, Stupid for Frisco. Who's their GM these days? Must me Ditka

hagan714 04-19-2006 11:11 PM

I say hats to both. SF is like us in need of everything DE,OLB,CB,S,TE, trade up 1 spot (100 pts) and they got AJ. stay put and you got Davis. At 22 they might get a shoot at carpenter also. if not OLB Chad Greenway, DeMeco Ryans are all options. LB looks good for years to come. At CB Johnathan Joseph, Kelly Jennings, Richard Marshall, Ashton Youboty probly to pick from. OLB/DE Manny Lawson.
DENVER TRIED TO MOVE UP TO GET DAVIS AND THEY COULD NOT WORK A DEAL TO MOVE UP SO THEY WORKED A DEAL TO MOVE DOWN. JACKSOM MAKES THE MOST SENSE NOW.

hagan714 04-19-2006 11:44 PM

SF can trade with us at 2 and still have at least one pick in each round. the same with denver up to 4. whats so bad about the math here. both improved and covered there butts.

All but rd 2, but I'd still take their 3rd and 4th rounders along with their 2 firsts. Would that be enough pts.?

pakowitz 04-20-2006 12:31 PM

#2 overall - 2600 pts
#6 overall - 1600 pts
#22 overall - 780 pts
i dunno what their 3rd round n 4th round picks #s are but the best 3rd round pick is worth 265 pts so it would be close...

Boogro 04-20-2006 12:58 PM

I'd do it all but for one reason, that 6 spot. That is the unluckiest spot in the draft.

It really could be bad. If there is a big rush on QBs early, then #6 could be ok. If not, we could be looking at a lot of players that would be great picks in any position from 6 to 35.

hagan714 04-20-2006 08:07 PM

it was early in the morning and i stand corrected. SF does not have a pick in round 2. this is what they have.
