If we drafted Davis, of course he would start. Anyone we draft will be a starter, I have no doubt about that. Or let me rephrase, will be drafted with the INTENTION of starting. Hilton may not be the physical freak Davis is, but he is ahead right now as far as NFL readiness and knowledge. I don't know how long it would take Davis to catch up to that, maybe not long at all, but I said it would be depth cause I am not as down on Hilton as you seem to be, and I think he wil do fine with Brees. So if I have a TE who I think will do fine, taking another one, no matter how good, is just adding depth. If I feel I am fine at a certain positon, I COULD choose to still upgrade that position, but I would rather upgrade a a position where there is more need. In my mind, our hole at LB or DT is much more a gaping wound than our hole at TE, but again that is prob cause I believe Hilton will do just fine, so I have TE lower on my list of needed upgrades. But that's just my opinion, and the diconnect could be our feelings on Hilton.

Ok...thanks for clearing that up...I like Hilton's measurables...6'8...big target...but i just dont think he has what it takes to take the offense to another level. I like the idea of having a guy that the defense has to account for over the middle and someone to free up our wideouts. I just dont think he is that threat. I may be wrong and i will be the first to admit it if i am. But if i had to list the saints needs in order of importance, i would say...OT, CB, LB, DT, TE, C.

Then why are we talking about Davis if there are 4 positions you feel is a higher need right now? lol

I am only talking about Davis if we move down to 7. Assuming Ferguson, Williams, and Hawk are all gone. I think then it would come down to Huff and Davis. Once again, this is my opinion which doesnt mean much, but i think Davis is more likely to be a sure fire producer over Ngata, Bunkley and maybe Huff. With all that being said...i would hope that is not the scenario we are faced with. I hope we walk away with Ferguson or Hawk...just trying to ease your pain if we do indeed draft Davis...its not all bad.

Well, honestly, for me, if it's a choice of Davis, Bunkley, Ngata or Huff, I am taking Bunkley, Ngata or Huff.

Hilton adequate at best? How you figure that JimBone? He caught 35 balls last season with Aaron Brooks as his quarterback. I definately can see him catching 50 easily starting fulltime with Brees as his quarterback. Remember he is a better pass catcher than a blocker with very soft hands... he has a bright future. I think if we took Davis, we might as well not have given Hilton a chance in the first place. With that said, Davis has outstanding measureables and it wouldn't surprise me if we did select him. But if we dropped down to 7 for some strange reason, Williams, Huff, and Ngata should be our options there... that's more of a need position for us.

I'm glad to see you're kinda defending Lyman sw.... I can see it... you're inching towards the other side! Okay maybe not inching, but at least you turned your head.

there's been talk of Davis lining up at WR some,,,,,

Bunkley, Huff, both great players, give the edge to Huff, smart guy, good football knowledge, wants to lead, love guys like that. Although, it's hard to find a guy like Bunkley these days at his position, and he has a motor.

You can line Davis up at TE, WR, HB, FB. he like bush would be all over the field. I disagree that Davis would mean the end of Hilton. Miller is more likely to go first. Then ernie in year 2. Davis for some reason is getting a blocking knock against him. He is an old fashion smash mouth blocker on the run and yes his pass blocking needs work. But he will be out in pattern 90% of the time. Yes he needs to update his style and learn more technique but that is not such a big deal. Hiltons blocking will be better this year as it always is improving but it is his hiegth that makes it hard for him. I think against mario williams he would do good. size match up helps. 2 TE formation is the same as 3 WR with the two in the game. Defenses would not be able to focus on Duce any more.

I say that because he is never going to be the guy that stretches the middle of the field and takes pressure off of the wide outs. Sure, he can catch 40 passes and be a red zone target, but the options that someone with Vernon Davis' skills brings to the saints are far and beyond anything Hilton could ever do.

That remains to be seen JimBone... last year was the first season he got any significant playing time. So to say he can't be a guy who can stretch the middle of the field has no validity.

Interesting point(s) BnB and Hagan... WR and FB would be interesting. We all know Gonzalez lines up at WR sometimes and Kleinsasser for Minnesota played a lot of FB when he wasn't hurt while catching a lot of balls out of the backfield. Only problem with having two TE's on the field at the same time is that Deuce runs better with a fullback running in front of him as we've seen and he's made known in the past. Didn't we try that 2 TE thing the other year and it got us no where. Maybe it will be different under Payton... I guess.
