OL center of attention...........

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; "Although it's true that only 13 centers have been chosen as first-rounders since 1970, two of those, Jeff Faine of Cleveland (2003) and Seattle's Chris Spencer (2005), have come in the last three lotteries. OL center of attention...........

"Although it's true that only 13 centers have been chosen as first-rounders since 1970, two of those, Jeff Faine of Cleveland (2003) and Seattle's Chris Spencer (2005), have come in the last three lotteries. Since the 2000 draft, 14 centers have been chosen as first-day picks. That average, 2.3 first-day centers in the last six drafts, could increase this year with the presence of highly regarded snappers like Nick Mangold (Ohio State), Chris Chester (Oklahoma), Greg Eslinger (Minnesota) and Jason Spitz (Louisville) in the pool."

"Chester is an intriguing prospect in that regard. A player who began his college career as a tight end, the Oklahoma star moved to center as a junior, excelled there except for some injuries, and is one of the real risers on draft boards. Chester can get out in front on screen passes, pulls well on sweeps, and will get downfield and block at the second level."

RE: OL center of attention...........

Bentley is a hard loss to take but one thing i noticed in his game was he had a hard time dealing with the big NT in 3-4 defenses. Thats about it though. Now we have a tweener at C, JONATHAN GOODWIN. Even the saints rooster has him listed as OL. So today we do not have a Center on the roster. Just an OL playing at center. Goodwin was " a back - up at best" at both G positions and C. Jets hated to loose him but they never saw him in the starting role. So this is a position of need as we all know.
Goodwin's name is linked to Pitt. at the 32 spot and Houston at 33. They have him as a G/C, 6-4, 295, 4.88 is the fastest OL in at the combine. He is a tweener again. I like the mobility he offers so the saints could run a screen for once. But like Sir Charles can he handle a large bull rushing NT/DT? Man on man vs. zone blocking? which will it be? Keeping Mayberry and cutting Jacox suggest more Zone.
nice read biloxi-indian
thanks.
