Arrington Deal

Giants | More on Arrington deal
Sat, 22 Apr 2006 15:21:36 -0700

ESPN.com's John Clayton reports agent Kevin Poston didn't say how much was guaranteed in LB LaVar Arrington's contract, but New York Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi indicated that it includes performance bonuses. To get the $7 million-per-year, Arrington and the Giants agreed to load the deal with incentives. Arrington, who will get a $5.25 million signing bonus, will receive a base salary worth around $3.7 million a year. With reachable incentives, Arrington can make $5 million a year and with maximum performance, he can take the deal to $49 million if he completes the seven years of his contract.
Now that it's all water under the bridge, I'm not sure how this deal would have broken us. Then we wouldn't be painted into a corner claiming to need this Hawk person (who may well be the 2nd best LB in this year's class).

Chad Greenway is the man!!

He is just like every other elite athlete. He just wants to get paid. :D

Look at the teams that were interested in him, and he was interested in. The Packers, the Giants, the Jaguars, and the Dolphins. Notice a trend in the quality of the franchises mentioned? Anything about their histories stand out?

Another thing. If money was so important to him, why did he pay the Redskins $4.5 million to get out of his contract?

BiggPoppaFro4 04-24-2006 06:48 PM

Because he's getting a 5.25 mil bonus to play for the Giants. He knew he wasnt' going to reach his incentives in DC, wanted out and also knew that teams would line up to throw money at him.

I agree Ghandi, show a guy enough cheese, and any spot is "where he always wanted to be/felt the most love/got the best chance to be apart of something special

Okay. I'm going to say this again for the last time - HE DID NOT GET ALONG WITH THE COACHING STAFF IN WASHINGTON (THAT BEING THE REASON HE WAS ON THE BENCH FOR MUCH OF THE YEAR). :?

Also, as BigPoppaFro4 pointed out, he knew that once he got on the open market he was going to get paid! Bottom line the guys a gamer & wants to play. Some say he wants to play for glamorous franchises only. Here's some more news: Green Bay is not an elite franchise anymore (hence the reason they're picking at #5 in the draft). Jacksonville has never made it to the big game, have they? How's that a storied franchise? Show him the money & he'll play for the highest bidder. Of course we wouldn't know what he would think about playing for the Saints, because we never even tried to make the man an offer.

Chad Greenway... my favorite linebacker of the draft. You won't see a frown on my face if he lands here some way some how.

And on the Arrington deal, that's something we definately could have done. Would have looked nice in the black and gold. Oh well... another bites the dust.

Ummm Green Bay is not an elite franchise??? Yeah there's only like a 25 year long waiting list for season tickets. They are losing right now, to be sure, but they are still a highly respected franchise with a legendary history. Why wouldn't hee want to be associated with that? . Jacksonville may have never made it to the big game, but they still have experienced more playoff success than us, and they've only been in existence since 1995 or so. Regardless of this, no one has made a case as for what he would have to gain by coming to New Orleans in comparison to the other teams. I guarantee you if we had offered him the same thing that the Giants did, he would still have gone to them. Don't let that contract fool you guys.

I have pride in our team too, but I know where we stand in comparison to them too, and it's not favorable.
