Javon Walker visiting today

According to ESPN.com the Packers have give Javon Walker permission to seek a trade. He has two visits scheduled. One with the Saints today and one with the Broncos tomorrow.
What do we have to trade for him? A fourth rounder, our second rounder, another player like Stallworth?

pft-
And Walker, we hear, wants $10 million to $12 million in guaranteed money. With only one solid NFL season after two less-than-stellar campaigns and a torn ACL suffered in Week One of the 2005 season, it's simply too much money to cough up.

It's the same problem that plagues efforts to trade Ashley Lelie of the Broncos and Donte' Stallworth of the Saints. Both have one year left of their deals, both want more than the market will bear, so neither will be swapped unless and until their expectations get far more reasonable.

-----
I wouldn't mind Stallworth for Walker, straight up, no contract. Walker drops less than Donte IMO. Let GB get rid of the headache. Let them both show what they can do for a big contract. You can extend him up after the season starts if you like what you see.

Does Javon Walker still have Drew Rosenhaus as his agent? If he does, there's no way in hell he'll be dropping his demands. If not, we might be able to work something out. But you're right LKelley, just too much money.

here's my take on javon walker... if he can't get along/enjoy playing with one of the best quarterback's to ever put on pads, what makes you think he'll enjoy it here? add that to the fact that he wants way too much for what he's worth, the fact that donte' has been injury free/playing a lot of downs and productively at that, and that javon, being from the new orleans area, probably has childhood friends here that are not great characters, and you think for a second that that trade would be worth it? no thanks, i'll pass...

LKelley67 04-27-2006 12:39 PM

Deuce, he hired Kennard McGuire of CSMG this year as his agent.

It seems there have been more than a few players have been dissatisfied in GB. We traded for McK in the same scenario.

I'm no granola eating liberal but to say out of nowhere that the guy "probably has childhood friends here that are not great characters," is quite a slam. Couldn't he just as easily be a model citizen?

It spurred my curiosity and I found this-

Was an honorable mention All-USA selection by USA Today as a senior running back at St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette, La.
Also earned all-state honors and was chosen Class 5A 'Player of the Year' after rushing for 1,900 yards and 29 touchdowns; he also produced 300 yards and four TDs receiving as well as three touchdowns returning kicks (two kickoffs, one punt)
A four-year letterman in football, he also earned four letters in track, garnering All-America honors as the second-rated triple-jumper in the nation and placing second in the state championships his junior and senior years
Also finished second at state in the long jump as a senior
Additionally earned one letter in baseball, winning all-state honors as a right fielder, and subsequently was drafted in the eighth round of Major League Baseball's 1997 free-agent draft by the Florida Marlins
Played three seasons (one full campaign in 1997 and two summer seasons in 1998-99) in the Marlins' farm system
Appeared in 56 games during his rookie and Class A career, hitting .169 with two home runs, three doubles, 10 RBIs, four stolen bases and 14 walks, with 66 strikeouts
Did reach Class AA level for one day
Baseball rights have since been traded to the Anaheim Angels
Competed against fellow 2002 Packers draftee Craig Nall in two high school sports, football and baseball, as a senior
Stands one semester away from his bachelor's degree in communications, he aspires toward a post-football career in television or as an actor
Will be launching a clothing line later this year, which is expected to be available in Wisconsin at Boston Store and Younkers; he will model the clothing for the stores' advertising
His clothing line - designed for both men and women - will include sports apparel with a "JWalk" logo, business-casual button-down shirts with a "JW" logo and other sportswear with a "Catch This" phrase emblazoned on it
This fall, Boston Store/Younkers also will feature a Javon Walker bobble-head doll through a promotion with the Packers
Also is involved with several prominent NFL players in the development of a children's vitamin designed to encourage healthy eating and fight childhood obesity
Plans to visit about 25 Wisconsin high schools statewide this fall (roughly one per week), steering students toward college, as part of the 'Javon Walker and Marques Anderson Kids Tour' that he is doing along with his Packers teammate
Expects to donate $84 for each touchdown he scores during the 2004 season to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin
Gave $5,000 to the Lafayette (La.) School District in April 2004 for the purchase of new school uniforms
Previously has given time to the March of Dimes (through participation in the 2003 Edgar Bennett Celebrity Bowling event) and to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay (by visiting and signing autographs at a Christmas party for children with cancer)
Also has worked with the Brett Favre Forward Foundation, playing in a 2002 golf tournament and taking part in the Brett Favre Celebrity Softball Game the past three years
Plans to hold the first Javon Walker Celebrity Softball Tournament next March in Lafayette, La., the event would benefit the local school district
Also participated in the Carmelo Anthony Celebrity Basketball Tournament this past May in Denver
Helped University of Wisconsin-Green Bay athletics through attendance at the school's 2003 Lambeau Field steak fry
Served lunch to Holy Family School (Green Bay) students and participated in the Packers' 'Training Camp for Business' in 2002
Worked with a variety of youth groups while at Florida State, especially around the holidays
Hobbies include hunting, particularly for deer, and fishing, especially for bass
Also enjoys working out and spending time with friends
Splits residence between Green Bay and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Just some blurb. Still he may be one of those crack smoking deer hunting bass fisherman. If it said he was a Bentley collector and liked cruising in da rough Miami hoods I might think more of him. I bet he could outrun a cop too.

doesn't he some weapon charge or something... i could have sworn had something character issues, which is why i brought it up... i'm just saying, payton has cleaned house as far as the character concerns, so taking in someone with character concerns would be oxymoronic in a way... i don't see a deal with us, but it is very possible that he plays opposite rod smith next year... i also don't see us going after any wide outs this year unless, he's the absolute best possible player in the draft at that time... i figure joe horn, stallworth, henderson, chris horn, michael lewis, and chase lyman will make the cut, with nate poole on the practice squad... but i'm not that smart so who's to say

LKelley67 04-27-2006 12:55 PM

I don't know of character issues except the squabbling with Lord Farve. I think Payton is so big on character and having guys that are only in with his program 110% that Walker wouldn't even be brought in if such were the case, especially two days before the draft.

chRxis 04-27-2006 01:15 PM

simply put... we aren't getting him...

If I remember right it was Favre who stuck his nose into the situation. Walker asked for a new deal, got kicked in the teeth publicly by Favre and didn't respond. Seems like he did the best he could with a pretty bad situation.

Eagles | Talking trade with Green Bay
Thu, 27 Apr 2006 09:58:32 -0700

Michael Smith, of ESPN.com, reports the Philadelphia Eagles are talking with the Green Bay Packers about a trade for Packers WR Javon Walker, but conversations aren't as far along as they are with the New Orleans Saints and Denver Broncos.
