Take Bush. Keep him. Ignore offers to trade for him. This is a once in a lifetime draft pick that we don't have to give up anything to get. If need be, trade Deuce for a late 1st or early 2nd. Every analysis I've done over the last two years and posted on this site has come up with the same conclusion, the offense is what's holding this team back, not the defense. An all-pro qb in Brees (god help his shoulder), three good wideouts, a rapidly progressing te, plus a relatively solid line (no rookies) gives the best defensive weapon there is, an offense that can control the ball and wreak havoc by keeping our defense off the field.

This is a defining moment, take and keep the star. The Superdome will be sold out by Monday and corporations will relocate to New Orleans.

As dumb as Houston was for passing on him for a workout warrior, we would be even dumber to have Bush with #2 draft pick money and Deuce in the second year of a 50 million dollar deal.

Exactly, so if Deuce doesn't return to form this year, tell him to restructure and be a team player. We've given him the big contract, and now its time for him to deliver. If he doesn't want to restructure and has a poor year, cut him and we still have Reggie Bush. If he recovers we can trade Reggie We shouldn't be held hostage by Deuce's contract if he doesn't recover from this injury of his.

Corporations will NOT come just for Bush...you get investment by showing you have a stable, well defined and balanced product. Getting Bush stacks us at a position we already have filled with a Pro Bowler...like taking Leinart.

You are right, this is a watershed moment for our team. To choose to reconfigure ourteam into a balanced product and be seen as a microcosm of a balanced, sustained and renewed city, or to continue with the idea of confusion that has dominated the view of us.

Ummm players with huge contracts DO get cut you know. Mickey Loomis is a great bean counter, if nothing else, so I'm sure he cut the deal to Deuce with a couple of outs in place. No NFL contract is iron clad and I would be willing to bet the deal is more back-loaded than anything else, ESPECIALLY with him being a running back. He can and SHOULD be cut if he he has a subpar comeback and refuses to restructure his contract. The point is that he has become a question mark by the very fact that he popped his ACL last year.

Bush is the guy we have to take. He is a prospect that comes around once every 20 years. Every year there are stud lbs (like Hawk), stud ots (like D'Brick), stud cbs, stud dts. While I hope we go on to win the super bowl this year, I realistically think we are going to finish with somewhere around 6-8 wins. That puts us in the 10-20 range of the draft next year and an opportunity to take a stud ot, dt, lb or whatever you prefer. This year we have a chance to take someone special, and I will be very dissapointed in the Saints if we pass on such a prospect. I also believe that some of our "need" positions aren't as bad as we think. I'm not saying our oline is good but I think Brooks and below average rbs made our oline look worse than it really was. Reggie will add a new dimension to our team and will make our oline look much better. Teams will have to take an extra person out of the box to spy him, that's one less person blitzing/stuffing the run up the middle. It still needs an upgrade but we can get a good ot with #34. With Fujita and Simmons signing, our lbs are much improved and this is a very deep draft for lbs, so we could get a starter in the 2nd round if that's what you prefer. DT is a very difficult position to project and I feel like you are just as likely to get a good DT in the early rounds as you are on day 2. Out secondary isn't great but if Smith moves to corner we have an improved secondary. While I look at our team as a whole, Bush makes us so much better in the running and passing game on offense, and will help our special teams on pr/kr. He'll improve field position and would force teams to plan defenses around him. Our wrs and tes are going to be seeing a lot of single coverage with Bush on the field. Anyways, I'm just going off on a little rant listing any reason I can think of to draft Reggie. The thought of him in black and gold makes me feel like a kid on Christmas.

I'm not completely adverse to taking Reggie.

But if we do, I'm clinging to the same standard I've held with The Immortal Mario Williams. We don't need another tailback. So, just like Charles Grant when we were discussing taking a DE, someone has to be the odd man out. Deuce is the only guy on the roster with any trade value. So if we take Reggie, we start floating offers of Deuce to Miami maybe. Saban needs a second back in his offense.

Wow, when did people start thinking of trading players like this is a Madden video game? WE CAN'T TRADE DEUCE. Christ almighty. Or we can, and take about a 9-11 mil cap hit. Very smart. :x
