2006 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Grade: 69 | Key
Alert: None

Comment:
He is quick and athletic. He shows solid initial quickness in-line. He shows the ability to get his first step in the ground quickly. He plays with solid lateral quickness in pass pro. He is a smart player - can make all the line calls up front. He provides solid help in pass pro. He shows good awareness for stunts and delayed blitzes. He is effecting pulling both left and right - can find and locate on the move. He shows solid re-direct vs. double moves. He uses his hands well in both the run and pass games. The biggest negative with him is that he fancies himself as a tough guy, but he plays extremely soft inside. He gets knocked back into the backfield too often at the snap. He gets walked back into the QB vs. power rushers. He does not offer position versatility - strictly an OC.

So let me get this right. He's a pansy that with a Fonzie leather jacket and can't hold the line?

Yeah, that's starting material. If he were dead, Jerry Fontenot would be spinning in his grave.

Jeff Faine is going to be a great asset to the team. He is developing into a great center.

He is no LeCharles Bentley...but he also is no weak link...he is a servicable center and i think the trade made a lot of sense...but thats not to say that i agree with what they did with the pick.

He's a great pick-up! He was also drafted higher than Mangold :-P

D_it_up 04-30-2006 09:28 AM

I think it is a nice pick-up, because he can actually start and they still got another 2nd rounder in the trade (even though that pick is questioned by many of us). It definitely fills a need at the position, and even though he may not be great, he's still better than what we had there.

What's the word on his biceps injury?
