RE: Draft Evaluation

hass is a good pick so is ninkovich. but that is me. dude you didn't really just inlcude mr.glass did ya lol. just breakin your balls

BiggPoppaFro4 04-30-2006 04:40 PM

If we take the picks for what they are...B overall

Nice depth added...Harper and Haas may show that we are for real in dealing Smith and Stallworth, though I hope not.

Harper pick is the onlyone that stumps me...and that's just for where it was. I think he could have been gotten at a later pick...but when combined with the multiplier of Faine, not bad at all.

Everyone else is good depth in areas we needed it. No big names (except that guy named Bush everyone keeps telling me to like  ) but good depth all around.

spkb25 04-30-2006 04:46 PM

poppa i think the fact that we didn't have a third is what made us take him there. not sure but it sounds logical

duece4pres 04-30-2006 04:52 PM

hass is one of our better picks

BiggPoppaFro4 04-30-2006 04:52 PM

makes sense, but I have to question not trading back again. Prolly was on another team's radar and didn't wantto take the risk. With this draft, I'd find it believable.

Either way, we got the picks, plus two vets that fill holes for us..then there is Bush (anyone know when I can get one of his jerseys? I mean since I burned my Brooks one, I have room  )

RE: Draft Evaluation

1. Bush - Up just because he's the best player in the draft. Down because we didn't need a runningback.

2. Harper- Down. How many safeties do we have again and who's this guy?

3. Evans - Down. Division 2 OT... not saying he's not good or won't be good, we passed on some players with great upside to select him. No one even commented on the guy... probably didn't even know who he was.

4. Ninkovich - Down. DE... with Orien Harris still on the board, this was not a need pick.

5. Hass - Up. Need position receiver with good hands who could develop into another Joe Jurevicius. Highly productive and proven throughout his career.

6. Lay - Up. 6th round pick and fills a need a corner. Probably will never be a starter butt it's the 6th round. If he can contribute on special teams, then it won't be a wasted pick. Maybe if he starts working out with Law, he'll be a decent nickel corner down the road.

7. Strief - Up. Loved the guy. Need position and provides good depth at OT. Better than what people give him credit.

Pick #1 one was a success because you can't complain about passing up on Bush. Rounds 6 and 7 was outstanding. Everything in between blew but I'll root for them once they put on our uniform. Netting Thomas and Faine compensated for those selections a tad bit. Time to move on and focus on the season... no point in being sour for the next month or so.

Healthy Lyman > Hass... by a landslide.

spkb25 04-30-2006 04:53 PM

lol. yeah i may be buying a bush jersey.

Euphoria 04-30-2006 05:00 PM

Yeah asside from Bush the rest of the picks suck except the last 3 were good value picks.

TIGERSAINT31 04-30-2006 05:19 PM

Overall not bad could have been better but not bad. We still need to pick up a starting caliber cornerback.

spkb25 04-30-2006 05:22 PM

tiger don't we have craft. euphs favorite player. he is good at evaluating talent. when he says take someone the saintsd listen. hahahaha

hagan714 04-30-2006 06:01 PM

I think I will Buy a Hass or Colston jersey

TIGERSAINT31 04-30-2006 06:03 PM

Craft could not cover a mattress with a blanket

spkb25 04-30-2006 06:07 PM

lolololol tiger

FanNJ 04-30-2006 06:08 PM

Hass and Colston are solid late round selections. Overall the only Stumpers are Harper and Evans. Granted we picked up another vet for Evans but Gilles was there.

hagan714 04-30-2006 06:14 PM

Harper, Evens and Lay were reaches I agree

LivnaLieTimay 04-30-2006 06:18 PM

I plan on buying a Bush jersey the first day they are out. As for the draft, I said in another thread that overall, I give us a B. We reached for a couple players but it's hard to fully evaluate the draft until we see what we do after the draft with cuts and trades. There should be some solid players available for us to pick up, like a starting cb or we could acquire some good players in any possible trades. We shall wait and see what happens.

hagan714 04-30-2006 06:18 PM

But even with those reaches I did open a good bottle of scotch at the end. it makes those 3 picks easier to swallow

gandhi1007 04-30-2006 06:22 PM

1st Round-Two Thumbs Up!!!!! (Unbelievable)
2nd Round-The Middle Finger!!!!!!!! (Could have traded down, picked up more picks, & still got Harper)
4th Round-Thumbs Down (I think it was a reach in the 4th)
5th Round-Thumbs Down (We did not need another DE)
6th Round-Thumbs Up (Haas was a great value pick & Lay...I just don't know. Seems like a reach, but I'll give the round a thumbs up anyway.)
7th Round-Two Thumbs Up (Just when I was beginning to give up, we made 2 GREAT picks in the 7th)

All together, I give Payton & crew a B- to C+. It would have been much worse if not for the great late round picks.

How did the Saints address the need for an impact LB in this draft? Cherm, where is daHawk?

Cherm, the case of cold Dixie will go down well with a few dozen oysters!

Hope to be in NO to share with you during the upcoming season. :D
