Undrafted free Agent Weatherford Signed

Weatherford to the Saints — Terre Haute North grad Steve Weatherford, who had entered the draft ranked as one of the top five players at the punting position, was not selected but agreed to a free agent contract with the New Orleans Saints on Sunday evening.

Weatherford’s decision to sign with the Saints was helped by the fact that the team’s new assistant special teams coach, Greg McMahon, had been the special teams coach at Illinois. Former Indiana State assistant coach Sean Payton, now the head coach at New Orleans, had also talked to the former Illini kicker.
