Michael Bennett Trade

Though another veteran figures to be added to help replace Ricky Williams, Sammy Morris was told he will be given every chance to win the No. 2 running back job and is emerging as the possible best option. The free agents (including Charlie Garner, Stephen Davis, Lamar Gordon and James Jackson) aren't enticing.

One official in contact with both teams said he expects Saints executive Rick Mueller will call his brother, Dolphins GM Randy Mueller, and shop ex-Vikings running back Michael Bennett.

Makes good sense with Phins need and he being the biggest loser in drafting Bush. They are deep at CB examining their depth chart. Bennett for Will Poole would be nice.

RE: Michael Bennett Trade

I'd give them a shot at Stecker first, Bennet's too valuable a backup for either player. Or even the Beerman as well.

Is Deuce healthy?

Saints | Team could contact Miami about M. Bennett
Wed, 10 May 2006 07:34:03 -0700

Barry Jackson, of the Miami Herald, reports one official in contact with both teams said he expects New Orleans Saints executive Rick Mueller will call his brother, Miami Dolphins general manager Randy Mueller, to shop Saints' RB Michael Bennett.

Bennett has a better trade value than Stecker. Besides I like Stecker. Stecher and bush in the same backfield would cause a great deal of problem for a pass defense.
I look at the rooster and I see not much they can offer. Though Poole is interesting but a conditional pick would have to be thrown in.
So I am looking at a draft pick here in 07. A 3 would be great a 4 is acceptable, a 5 would be disapointing

saintswhodi 05-10-2006 10:04 AM

Like I said in another thread, if we trade Bennett to Miami, it will be for Jack Hunt or Norman Lejeune. Book it. 8)

BrooksMustGo 05-10-2006 10:09 AM

No way I like this deal. No better than Deuce has hit the hole for the past couple of years, I like having Bennett on the roster. Deal Stecker if they want, but I'd keep Bennett.

wheelman 05-10-2006 10:22 AM

I repeat. Ahem. Travis Daniels please.

hagan714 05-10-2006 10:34 AM

Ok whoodi you going with the safe bet and saying Payton needs another S.
That might be why Hill is trying his hand at S in Miami not CB. That reasoning I can follow.
Wheelman you like Sabin to give a LSU boy also. Would love to see Travis in the deal but with Bennet coming off injury it will probly involve a conditional pick on our part.
I would rather have picks for next years draft please.

saintbuck 05-10-2006 10:46 AM

Let Miami sign Turley and then trade Bennett for him. Bush running behind Karney with Brown{tackle} and Turley{tight end } leading the way.Sweeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!! On top of all that, you get that fired up crazy leader with balls that we definently could use.

LSUJeremy 05-10-2006 11:19 AM

I hope we keep Bennett. Three good RB's is good to have. Last year is a good example of going from a Pro Bowl RB one week to not much the rest of the season. Although, Will Poole would be interesting.

If it came down to a trade, I'd doubt we'd get anything higher than a 4th rd pick. Teams weren't willing to give up a 2nd rd for Edgerrin James or Shaun Alexander. I can't see Saban giving up a 3rd for Bennett.

No way he'd give up Travis Daniels, either. Daniels started as a rookie last year, and being from LSU, Saban knows exactly what kind of player he has there.

Finally, if Turley would agree to move to safety, I say pull the trigger and get him.

After his last job here, I doubt seriously that Turley would want to come back to N.O. Although, if he would I would gladly take him at any position. :D

JimBone 05-10-2006 12:14 PM

well, the fact is you cant keep all 4 running backs so instead of cutting one, get something in return. I will take a 4th or 5th for Bennett...the guy never played a down here so signing him in the offseason and trading him for a pick doesnt hurt anything...we just get an extra draft pick next year...and dont put anything past Miami, they traded a 2nd rounder for Lamar Gordon a few years back. Take what you can get and move on.

gandhi1007 05-10-2006 12:29 PM

We should be able to get at least a 4th rounder for Bennett if we go the draft pick route.

LSUJeremy 05-10-2006 12:34 PM

I'd keep Bennett over Stecker. More upside.

FatiusJeebs 05-10-2006 12:39 PM

Wow....a dilemma. I dunno man Bennett is very very fast. But Stecker can prove he can get it done. Stecker can also do kickoffs if I am not mistaken. Honestly....I don't think anybody should go. But if we MUST trade Bennet...we BETTER get a decent LB! WE NEED LINEBACKERS!!!!!!! :cursing:

We just got one (if he can stay healthy). Moore from Miami.

Man, it looks like we're going to have more players on injured reserve than on the field.

FatiusJeebs 05-10-2006 02:39 PM

Let me rephrase that Ghandi....

WE NEED GOOD AND HEALTHY LINEBACKERS!!!!! :cursing:

JimBone 05-10-2006 02:48 PM

I think Bennett has more value both in a trade and for our team. If Deuce goes down for say, 3 games, then bennett would be fine getting the bulk of the carries and Bush's role doesnt change. Stecker really doesnt make me comfortable when he has to do the brunt of the work. Stecker does play special teams and he is a threat out of the backfield, but i think Bennett's role disappeared when we drafted Bush.

JOESAM2002 05-11-2006 08:57 AM

I'd hate to lose him this soon. I feel like this guy can add so much to our offense and special teams. I, like some, would rather lose Stecker, I like him but if Bennett can stay healthy I think his upside is better. A healthy Deuce,a healthy Bennett and Bush, it just don't get no better than that!

Mucho. Given Deuce's injury and how he looked before the injury, I'd MUCH rather keep Bennett. Besides Bennett and Bush make a nice carry splitting tandem. Deal Stecker if we can, cut him if we can't.

Looking like it might be either Houston or Miami... Interesting quote from the story "There would certainly be some irony if Bennett were dealt to the Texans, who passed on Bush with the first overall pick in the draft, and selected defensive end Mario Williams instead." The fans in Houston are nuts over not picking Bush. Gotta figure this played some part in the "resignation" of the GM... I'd be interested to know the player the Texans "dangled" in exchange for Bennett... Who are some injury prone Safteys on the Texans???

gandhi1007 05-11-2006 12:34 PM

Philip Buchanon? We do need another CB & no way do they give up Robinson.

jrmllb 05-11-2006 07:05 PM

Me too keep stecker, much better upside if he breaks out again...Stecker aint gonna do it

JimBone 05-11-2006 09:24 PM

What good does Bennett's upside do the Saints? No matter how high it is, he has no role with Deuce and Bush...not here anyway...get rid of him and get something in return.

LKelley67 05-12-2006 12:56 PM

read as a rumor only that houston offered antwan peek lb

If we didnt have Zach Hilton on the roster I would say "Hell yeah!".

But we do, and I think the kid is gonna be a monster. Any coach with half a brain would have had him playing a year and a half ago at least. Every year you hear glowing reviews from coaches, players, fans, sports writers, game analysists, etc. about how good Hilton is. Then he just rode the bench while TE production was crap.

Let hilton play TE... Let Turley play guitar...

Stecker is one of the only Saints that didnt just give up last year, even though NO was in chaos and the rest of the team surrendered. He has heart.

I have heard for years how good Bennett is... Then he gets hurt. Every year. And with Reggie Bush Bennett wouldnt have to shoulder the full load... And? He has been broken too many times for me to want to keep him as opposed to Stecker.

I'll take Heart and Determination over Hype and Potential any day. Are you actually an LSU fan or really Jim Hazbeen in disguise?!?

LSUJeremy 05-12-2006 05:08 PM

Bennett came in to the league the same year as Deuce. They both went to their first Pro Bowl in their 2nd year.

He had injury problems two years ago. Last year, for whatever reason he didn't see the field much, but not because of injury.

Since Deuce blew his knee out last year, and wasn't that great two years ago is he a "Hazbeen", too?

hagan714 05-12-2006 05:09 PM

one IR ? at a time please. Draft picks please. add to the salary cap for june 1st cuts, trades or any other cash need deals we may get. I want flex in the draft every year.
Stecker get a spot on last years play alone.

JimBone 05-12-2006 07:28 PM

Stecker fits the role of a 3rd Rb better than Bennett...he isnt going to cry to run the ball, he is going to play special teams, and he is a good receiver out of the backfield...get something for Bennett while you can.
