Rookie allocations is part of your cap, so it's included in the total cap figure. So really, if we signed our rookies at the alotted amount, we'd have about 8 point something mil still in cap room, give or take depending on if that 14.5 mil figure is still correct. Pretty damn good with noone to sign.

hagan714 05-12-2006 04:55 PM

14.5-5.2=9.3 if the #s are right. June 1st cuts could be interesting.

JimBone 05-12-2006 07:30 PM

Don't hold out hope for a lot of big names come June 1st...teams are in much better shape when it comes to the cap now that you arent going to see a lot of potential starters get cut.

JimBone 05-12-2006 07:31 PM

I say use some of that extra money to start locking up some of our own players long term...Charles Grant, Stallworth? Hilton?...those 3 will be free agents at the end of the year so if they figure into the saints plans, they should spend the money while they have it.

LSUJeremy 05-12-2006 07:49 PM

I think we recently extended Hilton.

At this point, yeah, I'd like to see us keep Grant.

Stallworth needs to have a big year this year or I'd say let him walk.

If there's no one out there worth spending that money on we'll have it for next year to spend on a better player than what's available now.
