New Topic: Deuce's confidence?

This mini-camp article came out a while back, but after reading it I got an uneasy feeling about Deuce and his confidence in his knee. Did anyone else pick up on that?

http://www.nola.com/saints/t-p/index...3566103260.xml

Here's what he said:

"It's not really fear as far as whether you're going to be 100 percent. It's more being able to do everything you were able to do before the injury," said McAllister, who said this was the first surgery he's ever had. "That's probably the biggest factor. Can I go out there and do the same thing?

"I can't really say that I'm at a certain stage. I started practicing with the team a little bit last week, so I have confidence now that I feel good about what I'm doing. I still have a long way to go, but I'm getting there."

Maybe it's just his personality, but when Brees talks about his serious injury to his throwing arm; you get the feeling he's determined to be as good as new.

With Deuce, not so much...

I know that it takes a long time for ACL injuries to heal, but other players have recovered in the same time frame. Haven't they?

Regardless, he doesn't sound like a man confident in his current ability, or confident in being ready for the season.

Maybe it was his first serious injury, and he realizes he's not invincible anymore.

This is a kind of interesting webpage on ACL rehab.

RE: New Topic: Deuce

After doing some follow up research, I found this really good article about injury in the NFL, but it paints a pretty bleak picture for running backs.

It's on page 2.

RE: New Topic: Deuce

I think there are a couple of wild cards present. One is the severity of the injury, second is the mental attitude of the player, but I must say this article paints a bleak picture for running backs percentage-wise. We will see this year if Deuce can spring back or not. The bright side is that we have Reggie and Bennett to pick up the slack. Another thing that I thought of ... do you think that there is a possibility that some of those other runners were brought back prematurely? Maybe since they were the only good running backs on the team, they were pushed into service before they were fully recuperated. If that is even a factor, then possibly since we have other players that can step in for Deuce, might that make a difference to him getting 100% healthy before returning. Well time will tell, but I sure do hope Deuce comes back strong, and if he doesn't, I am glad we still have Bennett.

Did this guy conveniently leave out Edge James? Who blew out his knee and came back to once again be a top 5 back in the league? It took 2 years, but he did it. But he was also a workhorse for Indy his 1st year back. We have weapons to help Deuce. He also forgot Jamaal Lewis, who blew out his knee in college AND in the pros, and came back to rush for over 2000 yards a couple of seasons later. It's not all doom and gloom.

As far as Deuce's confidence, he is as confident as he is supposed to be. He's not gonna rush back and re-injure it, he is taking his time. Brees is motivated by the fact he wants to prove San Diego, and the doubters wrong. Deuce just wants to get back on the field and be able to play and help the team. Hurting himself again by going too hard or being over-confident doesn't accomplish that.

some bounce back most do not. Time will tell. The only thing that is for sure is about 2 to 3 years is cut off their playing time in the NFL. If they do an earl Cambell they will walking with a cane by 45.

It appears the writer did leave off the edge....

But, Edge is a rarity. Running backs recovering completely from knee injuries are few and far between.

I would love to see Deuce running for 1,600 yards again, but something tells me he's more like Eddie George than just his running style.

with Bush in the backfield with him, Deuce wasn't going to get 1600 yards anyway. But it will give him extra years on his career.

"Everbody has an opinion, what they feel about how long it takes a player to recover," says McAllister" Every ones goining to have a 'scientific study,' but really just depends on the player and how his body is going to respond. "My job is to go out and perform, I know I'll be 100 percent."

Deeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuccccceeeee is back ppl cant wait to hear every 1 screaming his name in the superdome when he breaks a long run !!! DDDDEEEEUUUUUUCCCCEEEE !!!

This bit seems to indicate that the Saints coaches are still a little up in the air about Deuce...
"The Texans still have their eyes on New Orleans running back Michael Bennett, whom the Saints are interested in trading. New Orleans is in no hurry, though. Reggie Bush missed some of the offseason workouts with injuries, and Deuce McAllister is still rebounding from last season's injury, leaving Bennett to take the majority of repetitions with the first team.

"We've talked to them over and over again," Kubiak said. "At this point, they aren't just going to let their starting running back go."
