Revolving Door at QB Continues

Las Vegas, NV, June 18, 2006 - Las Vegas Gladiators quarterbak Jason Fife has been placed on the team's exempt list after agreeing to a contract with the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League this week
http://www.oursportscentral.com/serv...es/?id=3329854

JASON FIFE Oregon 6'4, 226, 4.89

BIO: Moved into the backup role as a senior, passing for 53.3 percent/879/6/4 after starting the previous campaign when he posted career numbers of 51.8 percent/2,752/24/10.

POSITIVES: Intelligent passer that's been plagued with inconsistency the past two seasons. Quickly sets up in the pocket with solid footwork, stands strong against the rush and does not force the throw. Looks off the safety, puts touch on passes and throws a catchable ball. Patient, buys time for receivers and throws nice corner routes, letting targets run to the ball.

NEGATIVES: Does not sense pressure nor can he escape the rush. Lacks timing, anticipation and late throwing the outs. Previously showed a tendency to lock onto a single receiver.

ANALYSIS: A tough leader and above average athlete, Fife has the skills to make a roster at the next level. Needs work on his overall game but threw well at the Combine and is now looked upon as a late-round, developmental passer.

PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent

Whats the next move?

Brees, Martin, AMac. How many more QB's do we need. We have a pro bowl starter, a solid backup, and an athletic phenom at #3. I like our QB crew, leave it alone.

why drop a perfect candidate for NFLE for a guy we will be cutting soon anyways?

to answer the previous post:
a team needs 3 QBs on roster, 1 for the practice squad and having 1 to send to NFLE is also a great idea

Well I don't understand it either. The only things I can surmise from recent events involving QB is that he saw something in Eugene he did not like. Whether it was his weight problem, or something else, but he obviously sees something in this Fife kid that he wants to check out. When all is said and done, I think Bouman will be gone, and the best 3 will remain. Who will that be? I am guessing Brees, Martin and AMac but stay tuned to see if this new kid can outdo AMac.

Well, the intelligent part is new, the rest sounds like something we've seen before...

I don't get it, nor do I care. Eugene was never going to see the field. This guy won't either. I'm sure people don't "understand" this move because they've never seen both guys play. I can guarantee that somebody in the Saints organization has seen tape of these guys and has made an informed decision. Let's leave it at that, eh?

maybe amac trade is a roumor or is it? At every position we are roumored to have trade bait for we are deep and have brought in more new faces. Payton did the same with the draft. seems he lays out a good smoke screen as to what we are going to do. As for talent at QB I can not second guess the guy right now he is a QB coach and well smarts are important for the west coast offense.
