Questions about Reggie Bush

I'm just trying to grasp how good Bush really is vs. other current Elite RB's in the league. I mean is he Really that much more special than the others ?

You constantly hear how he is probably the best RB to come out of college in 20 years. How only once every 15-20 years we will see a RB like Bush.

Now, I've been seeing some highlights of Tikki Barber, Ladanian Tomlinson, Priest Holmes, Edgerin James, Clinton Portis, etc....

What separates Bush from these other guys ? Is it his speed, catching ability, ability to change direction like Barry Sanders ??

RE: Questions about Reggie Bush

for bush it is all about agility...
i have a picture on my desktop (i think i got it from this site) of reggie cutting a corner so hard that it looks like he is pulling off some sort of matrix move...
that may be why horn dubbed him "baby matrix"

RE: Questions about Reggie Bush

Yea Yea Yea... cut on a dime.... give you change for a quarter. I've heard it before. Still, how is he the best player to come out in 20 years? Not just RB but player? Are we supposed to believe the hype?

RE: Questions about Reggie Bush

the problem may not be that bush is a great, player...the problem will be that he is SO hyped that no one could possibly live up to it.

i think he will have a career much like marshal faulk. he will probably not end his career in the top 10 RBs of all time, but he will make more than a few pro bowls and help lead a few teams deep into the playoffs. i just hope he stays will the saints long enough to help lead the saints to the promised land.

The thing about Bush is his ability to accelerate very quickly. that allows him to pick a hole and hit it before the defense can close it down. His cutting ability and vision are other big assets. I put him in the Priest Holmes, Faulk category.

But what is most impressive is his receiving abilities. We are not talking about just the normal screen or short pass out of the backfield -- but receiving abilities like a wide receiver.

His all around talent and speed

Since I do not think he can carry a full workload as a RB I don't think his stats will be in the top 10 of all time but I think you will see some spectacular performances with pro bowl appearances and real match up problems for other defenses.

For someone to ask what makes Reggie Bush such a good RB, I have to ask the following question. Did you watch any USC games in the last 3 years?

No just the national championship. Texas had a good defense and Bush was easily contained. Wonder how that translates to the pros behind our OL?

In any case, just wanted to give you guys thing to talk about.

So based on that one game, we should have taken Vince(scored 16on wonderlik)Young?

foreverfan 06-22-2006 03:03 PM

Vince Young will be another Aaron Brooks. Only better.

mikesaintfan 06-22-2006 03:06 PM

one AB was more than enough

foreverfan 06-22-2006 03:15 PM

Yea thank god we didn't get vince young.

SapperSaint 06-22-2006 03:19 PM

Dude, this is what Reggie will bring to the table.

SPEED, SPEED, SPEED, SPEED, SPEED.

Will open up the run for Deuce with him in a WR role.

Will have defenders covering him more to free up Deuce and the WR's.

Will give the team endless possibilities on offense.

By the way we have a QB (Brees), the last thing we need is another AB! I would not compaire Young to AB even on Youngs worst day.

I am not a USC fan, I still consider LSU the true National Champions and not a shared. :airguitar:

jergensl 06-22-2006 04:57 PM

13 rushes for 82yrds with a long of 26 and 1 td
6 receptions for 95yds

i will take that kind of contained everyday of the week!!!!

It seems that he creates a lot of problems for defenses. He is hard to match up. I think it is his ability to catch that makes his start/stop/change direction running even more deadly.

He is not the best player in 20 years. He is the best running back/reciever/PR in 10.

WHAT?

Easily contained?

I'm surprised no one commented on "easily contained" in the National championship yet.

Did you forget about that long run he had when he tried to lateral the ball and turned it over? He made some crazy cuts there. Also on his early 4th quarter run when he did his trademark flip into the endzone....he had to change direction and bounce it all the way to the sideline, where he still outran everyone who had angles on him. He still had 96 yards on 6 carries....probably woulda had close to 200 if he played the whole game and didn't have to split carries with LenDale White. How is that easily contained?

GoldRush26 06-22-2006 10:06 PM

I'm sorry....he had 82 yards on 13 carries and 96 yards on 6 receptions. Still...how is that easily contained?

Bush alone accounted for almost 300 yards. If Payton uses him correctly just as Pete Carroll did and he gets his 20 or so touches a game, then he will be very difficult to contain. His speed, vision, and cutting ability will be difficult to contain running tosses and sweeps to the outside. He creates severe mismatches with LBs and Safeties should he line up in the slot or motion out to it. And the open field opportunites he should get in the return game add another dimension for him to hurt teams. Playing in the Pac 10, he did play against some bad defenses, but nonetheless he played well all around when he did face quality opponents. If Deuce can return to a shadow of his previous self and Brees can get the ball moving in the air, then Bush can make the offense very potent. Imagine the high octane offense of USC crossed with the steady move the chain offense of the Chargers the past few years and thats the type of potential this offense has this year. 10-15 touches in the run game, 4-5 receptions, and a handful of returns should maximize his output.
