Ahmad Brooks taken by Bengals in the 3rd round

He should fit in with their ex-convict team:

BENGALS TAKE BROOKS IN "TURD" ROUND

Two league sources advise us that the Cincinnati Bengals have selected linebacker Ahmad Brooks in the third round of the Supplemental Draft.

It figures.

Perhaps Marvin Lewis and the Bengals should change the name of the third round to the "turd" round, since they've now used three consecutive picks in round three on guys of questionable character.

In the 2005 draft, Lewis snagged receiver Chris Henry, who has since been arrested four times. In April 2006, Lewis took defensive end Frostee Rucker, who has faced multiple accusations of misconduct with females.

Now, it's Brooks -- who was kicked off of the Virginia Cavaliers after his junior season. Jason Cole, formerly of the Miami Herald and now of Yahoo! Sports, reported that Brooks failed multiple drug tests while in college.

Nice job, Marvin.

Kudos to the Bengals. He was definately worth a 3rd round pick (criminal or not).

Hilarious, yet so true. I wouldn't have minded using a 7th rounder on this guy. But I think we would label ourselves as hypocrites if we selected this guy because we've been stressing the importance of high character regardless of the level of talent. I think obviously this guy is an athletic football player, but I don't think he's worth using a first-day pick on.

Umm... Jammal Brown, Donte Stallworth, and Dwight Smith are all still on the team, so I think it's a little to late for that.

Yep. I agree.

Not much to add to all comments here other than talent often outweighs character. There are the few intances where the TO's must go, but only because they screw up team spirit or butt heads with coaches, owners or the flow. Not because they run afoul of the law or have off the field problems.

Many of use give kudos to Peyton running a tight ship in the character department. It'll be interesting to see how he deals with the issue when one of our big talents has legal or character issues.

Food for thought.
