Inspiration in the Stands

Saints| J. Martin practices during afternoon session Wednesday
Wed, 2 Aug 2006 20:35:54 -0700

The Associated Press reports New Orleans Saints QB Jamie Martin returned to training camp in time Wednesday, Aug. 2, to participate in the afternoon practice. Martin was excused last week to be with his wife, who underwent an operation for breast cancer. Martin said his wife would move with him to New Orleans where she will continue her treatment during the regular season. Payton said it was good to have Martin back and that he is not concerned with Martin being behind after missing nearly six days of training camp. Payton added, "He's a pretty sharp guy. It will be a matter of a day or two. We had him in the offseason so the installation (of the new offense) to him will be familiar."

Glad to Jamie's sharp and the days out wont hurt him. But hey the way the QBs been playing at TC, he can take his time.
The one I am impressed with is his wife. Picking up and moving in the middle of treatment for breast cancer. Just think of changing doctors alone would be tough but to moving to N.O., after everything that has happened to the city and continuing your treatment there for cancer. That my friends, takes real guts. My prayers and best wishes are with the Martin family. I would like to see the fans go out of their way to welcome them to the city.
Wonder if she would give a motivation speech to the team. If they can have half of the mental strength she has we will be set.

RE: Inspiration in the Stands

Believe it or not, New Orleans is a great place to have cancer. There's so much of it in Louisiana that even the average physicians are phenomenal, aggressive and successful. I'm sure that she's going to be in excellent hands, as long as she doesn't go to "healthcare like no other"...
