Sammy isn't close to signing

DAVIE · The Dolphins and the agent for New Orleans safety Sammy Knight have exchanged contract offers, but the two sides remain far apart.
"We're trying to do something we can afford," coach Dave Wannstedt said. "Right now we're not there on either end."
Knight, who has started at safety for the Saints for six seasons, is also drawing interest from Green Bay. The Packers, though, are believed not to have made a formal offer.
Hoping for a more lucrative deal in free agency, Knight opted to void the final year of a contract that would have paid $1.9 million. The market didn't unfold as Knight had hoped, and he may sign a significantly lesser deal.
The Dolphins have strong interest in Knight to compete for playing time at free safety or strong safety against incumbents Brock Marion and Arturo Freeman.
"We'd like to have him, but we're not pressed," Wannstedt said.
