Random Thoughts....

- The Clinton Portis injury is huge for Washington. Four to six weeks is a big chunk. Could take longer for him to get back in the groove. The Redskins would probably feel much better having him full speed in the season openers - Minnesota and Dallas.

- I'll say it again. Maroney was a good pick-up by New England. Man, oh man.

- Concern about Reggie's shoes is way down my list.

- Its pretty much a given that Cutler, in the right circumstances, will flourish in the NFL. The jury's still out on the more mobile minded QB's - the Youngs, the Vicks and even the Brooks. All great athletes. Teams that sign these guys have to be willing to adapt their offense around them. That's a huge adaptation that the NFL isn't quite ready for. But I did read a magazine recently that ranked upcoming college quarterbacks in two seperate categories - pro-style drop backs and mobile athletes.

- Brad Johnson is a favorite of mine. Played basketball and football here in Tallahassee. He's in camp and not squawking about money. You gotta like that.

- Wonder where TO's gonna play next year?

- If I had my wishes and druthers, I'd wish Culpepper stayed at Minnesota, we'd signed Brad Johnson and drafted Cutler. I'd take that before Reggie every time. But, if "ifs and buts were beer and nuts, oh what a party I'd have".

- "You put any upper SEC team in any other conference and they'd go undefeated". In my best Colonel Potter voice - "horse hockey". All that schedule, bowl, out of conference, common opponents and score comparison was entertaining. No SEC team would cakewalk through any major conference. Sure, there's an occasional team that goes undefeated through a season. But no SEC fan in their right mind would chalk up a victory against Texas, USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Florida State, Miami or others before the game was played. I understand and appreciate the big talk fervor, the lack of objectivity is just homer drivel. (Feel free to substitute your favorite conference in the rambling above)

- Two games I won't miss come Labor Day weekend - FSU vs Miami and Tennessee vs. Cal.

- Don't hang your hat on the preseason. The rubber meets the road in September.

- If the Saints score 18 or more, and hold the other guys to 17 or less. We win.

Jack up your Santana Moss fantasy values accordingly

Or, who will be the Cowboys new coach?

If the Saints score 18 or more, and hold the other guys to 17 or less. We win.
If the Saints score 42 and hold the other guys to 41 or less. We win. More likely IMO.

Yeah. That, too.

.......and Oklahoma, USC, Texas, Ohio State, Florida State, & Miami would have a hard time running the table in the SEC the way they have in years past in their perspective conferences.

Guilty! But hey......I couldn't let that shot at the SEC just slide on by.

1)If any other player on the redskins would have been injured, it wouldn't have been a huge deal. But Portis is their team.

2) You are absolutely right about Maroney, he will help the Pats win another SB soon.

3) As long as it doesn't become a pressing issue, this is not a problem.

4) At the rate that defenses are getting bigger and faster, a scrambling QB may never be the dominate force in the NFL. OL will have to get bigger and stronger, but the best QBs will always be pocket passers,IMO.

5) I always liked Brad, it's just teams don't seemed to want to keep him. He will be good for another 3 years, even thought he is the oldest active QB. He hasn't really played that much, so his arm and body aren't as old as the average NFL QB.

6) T.O. will still be in Dallas, but Parcells won't.

7) I have to disagree on this one. I think Reggie has the POTENTIAL to be one of the greatest backs ever. But lets not give him that rank yet. He is still a rookie.

8) IMO, the SEC is the most dominant conference in the country, and alot of people will agree with that. I'm not saying that any of the SEC teams could have beat Texas or USC (These are two of the best college teams of all-time, IMO), but outside of that, their isn't much competition. Look at what LSU did to Miami in the bowl game.

9) Those will be good games.

10) Everyone knows the preseaon means nothing, but it does give you a glimps of what to expect.

11) Like the othr guy said " If the Saints score 42, and their opponent scores 41, then the Saints will when". Unless they improve alot from now until the season opener, we will have to score alot of points to win games.

RE: Re: Random Thoughts....

Maroney will have at least one 2,000 yard season when it's all said and done. As a matter of fact, his career numbers will rival Bush's when they both retire. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if he exceeds Bush's in career rushing yards.

Looking back ten years from now... the best three backs out of this draft will be Maroney, Bush, and PJ Daniels.

TO will be in Dallas next year period. No matter how much of a headache he is, he always produce ProBowl numbers. I think he'll work out fine in D-town.

Good picks. I'd probably substitute DeAngelo or Addai for Daniels.
