The situation at TE...

I am bothered that no one has brought up this question recently...I am more than a little upset that our 6'8" star at TE from last year was not seen in the game at Tennessee, I dont see him on the depth chart, and we have no mention of his name from post practice press conferences, what is the deal...

Are they going to cut him and keep Conwell and Miller and Lawrie? I dont get it, Lawrie is a camp body...not big enough...plus he's from Yale...Conwell is coming off injury and is getting a little long in the tooth and slow...Miller I regard as a guy who causght some passes from two struggling QB's in Buffalo that did not have the smarts to know where their recievers were or could not get the ball to them so they threw short to the TE...

JOESAM, I hope you will weigh in on this...I cant take it anymore I need to know something, Where the Hell is HILTON?

I surf a lot of boards and the impression I get everywhere is that all fans are gritting their teeth about Conwell being at the top of the depth chart. We all have watched him drop ball after ball, especially in crunch times it seems. He is supposed to be a great team leader kinda guy. It is a situation I question like letting Smith go. I don't agree but you are the head coach... so let's see. You get a free ride to start off with. I don't care how wrong I am if the results are right. I don't think Hilton is in jeopardy of losing a roster spot with 4 TEs kept.

I like Hilton alot. I was at every open practice last year and his development as a receiver was great.
His attempts at blocking though are painful to watch.
That was apparent during the regular season too.
Maybe it is his height and lack of bulk. You need size to play TE effectively.
Conwell is a huge man and his run blocking is more than adequate.
I guess we will have to trust the staff's analysis of the situation.
I already trust Payton and his boys 1000% more than Haz and his "Loveable Gang of Misfits".

From what i've seen these are the TE's that will make it. Campbell,he seems to be on Paytons good side, Conwell for blocking, Hilton, he's to big a target to get rid of. Out of the others who knows. Those three i'm pretty sure of.

Thanks Joe.
Dang! I hate camp being out of town.
I live just a few miles from the Saints' facility on Airline. It is one of the reasons (a small one) I bought my home where I did.
If it benefits the team though, I will live without popping in to see my boys.
I do envy you though.

From what I've seen I agree with Joe a bit...I'd keep Hilton at #1, he has improved on his blocking and is working on his hands and footwork very well, Campbell at two...He looks okay and Payton seems to like his style and bulkness...I'd see a battle between Conwell and Euhus, Euhus seems to be an exellent target in the redzone, and he can block just as good as Conwell...I see Conwell getting the boot b/c that injury has a nag on him, he isn't as tough anymore and he never did catch important balls

What's strange is that if you look at any of the FF sites, Hilton is a sleeper pick everywhere b/c he had 35 rec. and 350 yards in the last 7 games last season. Those are impressive TE numbers, especially considering our last 7 games. But everything I've seen and heard so far has him well down the depth chart. I expected him to be the starter. I hope Campbell can hack it. I know Conwell can't.
