RE: End of road for Bears

oh god now you want the bubble players too. i feel so used.
PRO CAREER: Former first-round draft choice has developed into a versatile member of Chicago's defensive line rotation, contributing at the end and tackle positions& Has participated in 43 of 48 regular season games during his career, starting 4, while totaling 89 tackles with 5.5 sacks and 10 TFLs& Ranked 3rd on Bears D-line from 2003-04 with 72 tackles while adding 4 sacks... Contributed to team-record 6 defensive TDs in 2004 by tallying his first career TD with a 45-yard return of his first career INT... Ranked among team leaders in sacks in 2003 while being among 3 rookies to participate in all 16 games& Among 11 players from Chicago's impressive 2003 draft class that made the team's active roster out of training camp.

2003 draft review
Notes: Father was in the military, and Haynes grew up in Panama, where he played soccer, volleyball and prep football. Redshirted as a fullback in 1998. Moved to the defensive line and backed up Courtney Brown at end in '99. Shared time and started two games in 2000. Started all but one game in '01 and led the team in sacks, but all it took was four. Had six tackles, one tackle for loss and half a sack in '99; 31-7-6 in 2000; and 41-11-4 in '01. Started all 13 games in '02, recording 80-23-15 with four passes broken up, one fumble recovery and seven forced fumbles.

Positives: Great quickness and movement rushing the passer. Good athletic ability and can shed on the move. Natural rusher. Above-average athlete with good movement skills. Flashes pass-rush ability. Has enough speed and playmaking ability. Makes plays.

Negatives: Does not have great power to beat first move and is not that fast. Has to improve at the point of attack against the run. Footwork improved in the last year-plus, but can get better. Lacks rare closing speed. Knows how to find the ball but could be better anticipating and adjusting.

Summary: Haynes' stock went up during his senior season and spiked further at the Senior Bowl. Has a chance to be a top-15 pick but has certain first-round talent.

good job, i do appreciate it.

in '03 everyone thought we were moving up to get Trufant. even that would have been wonderful compared to a big bust. Even with the picks traded we coulda had LB Nick Barnett and OT George Foster.

Blunders that bad cost a franchise years of development. A first rounder being a journeyman hole filler is one thing, being a wretched fried chicken gut filler is another.
