Here's what I saw in KC last night

Watched the game live last night, here's what I noticed -

- For what it's worth, never saw Nink long snapping. Houser was practicing his snaps a lot.

- Huskers fan appreciation night, I guess - Shandle, Bullocks and Foreman all start the game on D.

- Reggie Bush made a few ill-advised attempts trying to reverse field when the sideline was plugged on outside runs. He'll learn from this I'm sure.

- Jamal Jones looked pretty bad returning punts. Moore looked solid returning punts.

- Suprised to see Branch back to return kickoffs. I think he's elusive but don't think he's that fast.

- DT's starting to get a little bit better, not getting gashed up the middle quite as bad as before.

- Our D didn't get to face the full wrath of the KC offense. I think Green, Gonzalez, Larry Johnosn and Kennison were all DNP.

- Omar Stoutmire had a great INT and return that was negated by a phantom penalty. He should be great on special teams if nothing else. Scott also looked good at safety. I think the writing is on the wall for Gleason.

- Even from the upper deck, Deuce looks slim and in shape compared to last year.

- Brees has great composure and handles the ball real well. His PA fakes are solid. Could've fumbled a few times but had the presence to tuck the ball away or get rid of it. Had a great pass on 3rd and 16+ backed up in Saints terriroty. Shotgun snap was off to his left, handled it cleanly and threw a strike to the sideline for a first down that quieted the crowd.

- McKenzie always seems to back off on his coverage, maybe trying not to get hurt.

- Didn't see Joe Horn on the sidelines all night. Must have been getting treatment for his back or something.

- The offensive staff did a good job mixing up plays and formations, but couldn't get a lot of points out of drives. KC's defense was a little better than I expected.

- Wr's did a great job getting to the 1st down marker and hanging onto the ball and sustaining control after hard hits by KC defense.

- Hilton has a harder time tucking the ball away because he is so tall and his arms are so long.

- Relatively injury-free game for both teams.

- Weatherford had a good night punting the ball.

- OL starting to look better in all phases of the game.

- Fujita got a big ovation from the KC crowd when Saints defense was announced.

- We have a lot of decent veteran LB's who play pretty well on defense, but we don't have the speed at the position most teams have. KC LB Derrick Johnson seemed twice as fast as our LB's.

- Simoneau looked good in his Saints debut, seemed to bolster the run D in the 2nd qtr.

- Defense missed a lot of tackles in the late 3rd and early 4th qtr.

- Anwar Phillips looked the best out of the corners tonight. Make some very solid tackles. But he still has a ways to go.

- We would've won the game if not for Carney's shank-job in the first quarter.

- Bouman can play OK in stretches, but struggles in the red zone.

- KC's Brodie Coyle looked great for a while, then struggled. He should be KC's starter in a year or two.

- I used to love Quentin Griffin at RB, thought he'd be great in the NFL. Now he looks like a poor man's Reggie Bush (which still isn't too bad).

- I don't think Payton is fond of the NFL overtime format. You're not going to convert too many 2-pt conversions with your 3rd string offense.

That's about all I can think of for now. We'll look pretty good when we get our starters in full-time next week. The defense will be good enough if they can get some turnovers.

RE: Here

i like the "go for it" in preseason. it is the best (only) practice you can get. if it were regular season he would have kicked

RE: Here

No point in going to OT in the 4th preseason game and getting someone hurt you want to keep on the team.

Pre-season is over...It's time for the real deal.
Less see what we really got now!!!!

I see 6-10

to be honest my biggest wish is that brees and mcallister make it through the season injury free and we end the season on a postive note instead of the usual fall. if we make it to 6-10 with our schedule and our core group stay healthy, im a happy camper
