Where are the "Experts"?

Now that we're two weeks in and Daunte Culpepper is looking like a complete train wreck, I'm feeling great about the choice to go and get Drew Brees.

Kudos to Payton and Loomis.

Yup... Saban must be kicking himself.

RE: Where are the "Experts"?

The same could be said for the Saints overall.

A few example:

1) Everyone here in Atlanta picked Green Bay to win. "Remember that the Saints picked Russel Erxleben in the first round!"

2) Terry Donohue kept talking about Favre and the Pack even when we were up 2 TDs in the 4th quarter "Farve has enough time to bring the Pack back."

3) The Saints didn't get a highlight on the NFL Scoreboard show last night. Eli, Peyton Manning, and Brady got press conferences. They even showed Art Shell after the Ravens handed the Raiders their ass yesterday.

Even after winning 2 games on the road, and even after winning on Lambeau field, the Saints can't get any love.

That's why Monday night is a critical game for the Saints. We have to win so that the pundits can't get back to "same old Saints". Because if the last 2 weeks have proved nothing else, it isn't the same old Saints.

Beating two of the three worst teams in the league is not going to get us any respect from the national media. We're going to need a quality win against a divisional or playoff contender to make anyone pause when considering us.

Use the disrespect.

Even if we win Monday night the naysayers will say it was an emotional win -- that Atlanta has the better team.

Agreed. Trust me, most of the local Atlanta homers are already out calling it a cakewalk. The only broadcaster here that gave us any love at all was Chuck Smith, the former Falcon defensive tackle. He cautioned against taking the Saints lightly.

Anyone else about the Saints performing on a Monday night? They don't do well in the spotlight, they need to be the underdogs. I hope Payton's influence , can and will, break all of these old traditions.

Let's not forget the two teams the Falcons have beat are also 0-2, the Falcons are always in the lead pack of rushing teams and if it comes down to Ron Mexico beating us with passing it ain't going to happen. It's time to see if we're for real and also if the dirty birds are being given all the press because the media wants Vick to be it's poster child once again. Do I think the birds are a good team? Yes. Do I think they're as great as the media wants everyone to believe they are? No. It will be a close game either way but I believe we pull this one out by the skin of our teeth.

if Green Bay and Cleveland are two of the three worst teams then who is the 3rd??
Oakland?
San Francisco?
Detroit?
Miami?
Houston?
Tennesee?

Mike,

Oakland without a doubt.

Local media here in Atlanta keep harping on the fact the Shells O Coordinator was running a bed and breakfast in Idaho this time last year.

They are terrible.

Oakland is THE worst team. Followed by Tennessee, then Houston, Then Green Bay

Well IMO the Falcons are in the same situation as us. They beat two teams that are NOT great teams. Just like we are underated I think the Bucks and Carolina were overated. I hope Bush has a break out game. I would love to see Vick put on his ass a few times. Two people I get sick of anouncers talking about Vick and Farve. When we played them all they did was talk about Farve. It will be the same Monday night unless we give them something to talk about. We will beat the Falcons on Monday. Anyone notice the lack of blitzing in the first two games? maybe some surprises in store for

Per Don Banks of SI: Drew Brees was the prize among the available starting quarterbacks this offseason. Daunte Culpepper was not. You can't say I'm second-guessing you, Miami Dolphins, because I told you the same thing in March.
Thank you Mr. Banks. It's good that someone in the media sees us headed in the right direction for a change.

Since Peter King has stood up for New Orleans, I'll go ahead and quote him here. He's still sticking up for Daunte, but since he gives such a great two-fer, you'll see why I included it here.

PLEASE DON'T COMPARE CULPEPPER TO BROOKS. From Kevin Decker of East Lansing, Mich.: "Is it just me or are there amazing parallels between Daunte Culpepper and Aaron Brooks? Brooks took charge in New Orleans and was successful for a few seasons but ultimately became known for his tendency to make bonehead plays. The Dolphins took Culpepper with the understanding that they were signing the Daunte of 2004, not 2005.''

Kevin, Aaron Brooks never, ever had the success Culpepper had in 2003 and '04. Not even close. Let's give Culpepper till midseason before condemning him to mediocrity. He's a good leader, and once his knee gets a little stronger he'll be able to move around better and avoid the kind of hits he took last Sunday against Buffalo. I think that'll happen, but I'm not sure. I just know it's unfair to lump him in with the NFL's 38th-best quarterback.
I guess this really punctuates the end of the Brooks debates.

BJSim 09-19-2006 04:08 PM

Daunte's knee healing will not help his decission making skills, the problem he had in 05. King is like most people who are enamored with Culpepper, willing to give him too much the benifit of the doubt. I know he tore all three ligaments, but he had more time to heal than both Palmer and Brees and is still using it as an excuse? Or are just the sports writers that love him doing this?
