"Let's look like a Mardi Gras," Benson said.

One year after Hurricane Katrina displaced the Saints for the entire regular season and placed the NFL's future in New Orleans in doubt, Saints officials now are making plans for a waiting list.

"We're now competing on that basis with places like New York, San Francisco ... Chicago and other major cities," owner Tom Benson said Tuesday. "This is just tremendous. People in New York and other places can't hardly believe what you all have done and people in this whole area have done."

I think making money cures him more than winning but whatever it takes to keep the franchise here.

For a guy that's worth over $1.5 Billion on paper, he sure does seem to need every nickel. Too bad he doesn't take after other philanthropist billionaires who have learned that it is the individual's contribution to continuity and security of the community that makes one an honored and honorable person.

I wish he would do it HERE HERE!

Last year the dude about had effigys of him burning in the street. I did like the refrigerators on the street spray painted 'BENSON IN HERE'. LOL

He could will 51% of the Saints into a irrevocable trust of the state. There would be statues erected in his honor and he would become an icon generations after his death. He could do that and still let his family keep or cash out the other $500+ million worth of the team. Not bad for, what was it? $40million in 1985?

I'm with you LK. Whatever it takes to keep the old man happy. He's completely removed from what goes on with everyday people and Saints fans.

If nothing else, this just reaffirms that the people of New Orleans have tremendous passion for the Saints. If the Saints and Benson (by accident) can be a vehicle for rebirth and revitalization in the city, I say hell yeah. Sometimes good things happen for the wrong reasons :) I think we would see a different Benson if the sales were more indicitive of the team's success and the reality on the ground in the city.
