Besides the 200 media credentials the Saints usually issue for a game, the team has distributed nearly 550 credentials to ESPN alone for its extensive coverage plans. In addition, more than 500 national and international requests have rolled in, including The Weather Channel, the HSN cable shopping network, and Arab-world network Al Jazeera, Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said. Superdome officials have set up a special media center and other facilities to accommodate the crush.

this may not be the biggest game for the team in history but it is certainly the biggest for the franchise being a front page national news item as much as it is sports.

there's so many of these that are really good and heartfelt. Hope you take the time to read some. With the city hit so hard and the support so strong, much of the nation and other fans are pulling for us as part of what America is sposed to be about. I have never been a big Packers fan but I have always given them credit in how a city that small can own and support a franchise. I think that is a message the rest of the country is getting- they are hopeful, rebuilding, and damn crazy about their football!

another good one-

LK, great finds. It makes the waiting go by easier seeing so many want to see New Orleans return as a great American city.

10.8M homes watch Saints-Falcons
BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) -- The New Orleans Saints' return home to the Superdome on Monday night drew the highest rating ever for ESPN and was the highest-rated program of the night on any network, broadcast or cable.

The Saints' 23-3 win over Atlanta in the first game in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina 13 months ago drew a rating of 11.8 and an audience of 10,850,000 homes.

It was the third straight week the network's Monday night game set a record for ESPN, and the second time in three weeks that it was the top-rated show on all networks. The opening week game between Minnesota and Washington also was top-rated.

It was the second largest cable audience ever behind the 1993 NAFTA debate between Al Gore and Ross Perot on CNN.

A ratings point represents 923,000 households.

Kornheiser today-

I can't recall anything like the combination of noise, glee, gratitude, relief, hope and prayer that was offered up in the Superdome at the beginning of Monday night's game -- and the level got even higher on that stunning blocked punt that gave the New Orleans Saints the lead early.
