Derrick Lewis a number 3 reciever?

This past tuesday while listening to KPEL 1420 AM in Lafayette, I heard that Haslett stated that WR Derrick Lewis could be the Saints third best reciever. If that is true, who would he displace? Horn is definitely number one, Pathon and Stallworth are neck and neck at two, and Michael Lewis has to fit in there somewhere. Derrick Lewis does have great size at 6'2" 185 pounds, but he doesnt have alot of experience. If he can live up to the hype that Haslett has given him, it will be "Lethal Weapon 5" and we will have secondaries scratching their heads.

From what I\'ve learned about Derrick Lewis, he has the tools to be a force at WR. I could easily see him overcoming Pathon for the number 3 spot, merely because his size and ability to go over the middle. In three receiver sets, Horn and Stallworth could stretch the defense while Lewis did the dirty work down the middle. He\'d replace Jake Reed as being that big receiver we needed. I don\'t necessarily see him playing more than Pathon, but he could see a fair amount of time there. I\'ve been rooting for this kid to make his mark with the team. This could very well be the year to do it. As for \"Beer Man\", I love the guy to death and as much as I\'d love to see him used in the offense more this season, his size could be a problem. If he were to get injured playing offense, who would that leave for us to return kicks and punts? I\'m sure there are men who are capable, but they aren\'t Michael Lewis.

I think Pathon and Stallworth are only neck and neck b/c Stallworth hasn\'t had the time to develop mentally and he got hurt. I look for Stallworth to be head and shoulders better than Pathon this season. As for Derrick Lewis - time will tell. It might be hard to be a stud over the middle when your team is sporting Sloan and Conwell at TE.

Assuming Sloan doesn\'t get cut.

I\'m no Carl Smith, but I think Lewis and Pathon won\'t really play the same WR spot. Lewis would move to the 1st string 3rd WR. Pathon will be the 1st backup to the 1WR & 2WR spots. I think Reed will be the odd man out.

Horn is the 1st string 1WR, the top dawg and self appointed Mouth of the South!

Stallworth will be the 1st string 2WR, 2nd string 1WR (Horns backup).

Pathon will be a back-up to Horns 1WR and Stallworths 2WR, and will play the 3WR alot less now

D. Lewis will now be the 1st string 3rd WR. (assuming he beats out Reed) But he\'ll be the 4th in line for the 1wr & 2wr spots, If that makes sense? I may have even confused myself?!?

ANYWAY...
I\'m excited about the D. Lewis kid. I\'ve heard he NEVER drops balls, even bad throws. And he plays like he has stickum all over his hands. He fighs for the ball like Eric Martin used to. He\'s just not as fast as the prima-donna fly-boy WR\'s. But he does have the speed to get open against a nickle corner or LB.

There was another guy they loved at WR, but he blew out his knee in NFLEurope. I believe his name was Turner?

personally i think if pathon is over his injury completely, and has learned the offensive system so he\'s comfortable with it he very well may outshine horn this year. all i\'m saying is, let\'s see........smitty

Remember this is the time of year coaches make a lot of comments to try to motivate players. I don\'t think Derrik Lewis is anywhere close to Paython. Maybe Hasslett is just trying to motivate Paython. Derrik Lewis does have potential but remember POTENTIAL just means you haven\'t done it yet. Jerome Paython has done it.

I agree, Pathon is a smart, durable (don\'t let the injuries he\'s had in the past fool you, he took some heavy shots over the middle last year and still made the completion), and he\'s still got some speed. I don\'t think he\'s going to be in the #2 spot, as a healthy Stallworth is not only head and shoulders better than Pathon, but will give Horn a run for his money. I predict we will have two 1000+ yard receivers this year. Mark my words.

Pathon proved that he is tough and will hold on to the ball. I like to finally be in a situation like this one, these guys are gonna pound on alot of teams. If the defense plays just a little better, which I hope they play alot better, we will go deep into the playoffs.

Thank you B&B, it\'s rare that we disagree. Pathon, in my humble opinion, is overrated. He never produced like everyone believed he would in Indy and that was with Harrison attracting a lot of attention on the other side of the field, a damn good running game lead by Edgerin James, and one of the best young QBs in the league in Manning.

Last year he had a similar setup with Horn, Deuce, and Brooks. He only finished the season with reception totals in the 40s if memory serves. Now, assuming Stallworth stays healthy, plus Conwell, and a slew of new young receivers that they seem to be pretty excited about, how can you guys think he is going to produce more? I doubt Pathon will be here for more than a couple more years. He wants to be a number one or number two. He could realistically be a 3 or 4 here with reception totals in the 20s or 30s with this team. He won\'t want to put up with that and eventually he\'ll go somewhere else. That\'s just my guess.
