Deshaun Fumble challenge

i watched the game in a bar, and couldn't hear the explanation.
what was the ruling?

Refs blew the Keyshawn call, they need to change the replay system. or get rid of it

It was clearly not a fumble. Bad challenge on Payton's part. The Keyshawn catch was a blown call but we got a phantom pass interference call go our way to lead to the go ahead score by Deuce.

Yeah the refs really helped us out there.... but the Keyshawn catch they ran quick to the line to get the ball off..... shoulda called timeout if I were payton

Yeah, we got away with some, but still lost :x

I think the call could have gone both ways... but it had to be conclusive.

I thought this was a poor or too quick of a challenge when I first saw it. At the conclusion I changed my mind even though the call was upheld for these reasons-

1.) The rulling was made that the foot hit out of bounds before the ball was loose, thus no fumble.

2.) I do not think Payton or anyone saw that aspect when deciding to challenge.

3.) Based beyond that, I think the call could have been overturned as to the ball out and him being down otherwise.

4.) I got the sense that this is what the ref was saying to Payton afterward. payton was nodding his head and did not seem frustrated. Like he was told, yes it would have been a fumble if the foot would have not touched before.

Ia gree 100% LKelley. I said in the chat room I thought the ball was coming out before he was down completely. The foot being out of bounds is what kept us from getting the ball. I know there was a reason I bought a 62 inch high def DLP TV and Sunday Ticket. It seemed pretty clear to me the ball was at least loose just a tad before he was down.

I didn't really notice at the time, but shouldn't they have put some time back on the clock. If a runner is down by contact, the clock keeps running. But if he steps out, which he did, then the clock should have stopped right then instead of when Payton threw the challenge. Turns out it didn't matter in the end, though.

Also, on that "phantom" pass interference call . . . sure looked to me like the defender had Conwell's arm trapped and I thought that was why the flag was thrown.

foster was not ruled out of bounce on the play. the clock was still running. it was just like we called a timeout. it was worth a shot. not a bad challenge at all.

Euphoria 10-02-2006 01:21 PM

Yeah I didn't see where he was out of bounds. The issue was weather the ball was 'loose' or not. I felt like the ball came loose but DID NOT 'leave' the player enough for anyone to see where it was a fumble, until the Saints player swiped at the ball.
