Cris Carter

Is it just me or does Cris Carter get on everyone's nerves? He is so biased. This week he wrote an article about rookie QB's who started this past weekend. When he spoke about Vince Young, he stated that he did "very well". Here are Young's numbers, 10-21 for just 63 yards and 1 Int. He also had 43 yards rushing with 1 TD. However, Leinart completed 63% of his passes for 253 yards with 2 TD's and 1 Int. Yet, he said that Leinart did simply "well". If you combined Young's passing and rushing yards and then multiply them by 2, it still wouldn't be close to what Leinart did in passing alone.

He recently said that Culpepper was very accurate and the O line and lack of Ricky Williams were to blame.

Let's face it, these ex players know more than we'll ever know about catching TDs, blocking, tackiling, etc. But....they watch film and see the league through a different prism that is rarely grounded in reality. Alot of the time, geeks who have never laced em up know more about breaking down the events in a game than ex players do.

Hell, most of these guys are borderline unlistenable. Jaws and Tom Jackson both do a good job and Steve Young has a decent take. But, Irvin, Carter, Collingsworth, Esiason, Deion.....they're just blabbering locker room chatter and they get paid as experts because they were players.

It's just funny to me that more and more Tom Jackson and Steve Young are openly ridiculing Michael Irvin's statements on the set. Last night they hounded him mercilessly about Denver not being in his top 5 AFC teams. Steve Young basically said I don't have to argue with you cause the more you open your mouth the dumber you look. And on an earlier show, last month or so, Tom Jackson straight called him a retard.

I have never thought Cris Carter knew what he was talking about though. He seems to be just the token black guy on the Inside the NFL set. They seem more to humor him than actually pay attention to what he is saying.

From one persons viewpoint, Chris Carter is where he belongs off the field and in the booth. He should learn a valuable lesson...speak only when spoken to! IMHO

It was pretty funny when Steve Young told Irvin that he basically wasn't making any sense. Its great that before the game, he had the Ravens as the best team in the NFL, but after the game they were number 5 in the AFC.

I take absolutely NO STOCK in hardly any former player or coach as a commentator. Most of them are only on there to try and up ratings. It's almost like which channel has the biggest superstars on their studio team. Shannon Sharpe? If he got the marbles out of his mouth, he might be understood, but STILL wouldn't make any sense. Michael Irvin? Lay off the coke, and shut the hell up! Cris Collinsworth? I wish Howie Long had snapped your neck when you were still working the pre-game show on FOX. Dan Marino? You suck in Isotoner commercials, and you suck in the studio. Two words. Little Nicky. Enough said about you. Mike Ditka? Calm down, man. You're gonna have a freakin coronary if you don't talk slower. Jimmy Johnson? Sure you were a great coach, but get a haircut and find and get back on the sidelines. That's just a few of the players/coaches that I could care less to hear on t.v. Oh yeah....but don't let me forget about the worst three commentators/ former player/coach. John Madden, Joe Theisman, and Archie Manning. The t.v. automatically goes on mute if I'm watching a game they are calling, and I do my own play-by-play.

About the only former player that I don't mind hearing is Tom Jackson until the "Jacked Up" segment comes on. That's just annoying as hell.

People shouldn't be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people.

You also have to remember that these are the same people on t.v. that have the falcons rated above the saints and then I think who beat who.

I think there are only a handfull of guys out there who really know what they are talking about. Tom Jackson and Steve Young are at the top of the class. Jaworski knows. Howie Long has me convinced. Mike Tirico knows his stuff. But the most impressive player-turned-announcer/analyst is Sterling Sharp. He seems to pay attention to detail. He is so much different than Carter, or Deion, or Jerry Rice on Sirius.

Agreed.

Have you heard this guy go through a highlight package? He can't talk. One of the requrements (in my mind) of navigating 2 minutes of highlights is the ability to talk. Hey...great player, has some rings. But the lack of creativity on these network people's parts is amazing.

There are so many announcers that people universally don't like. (Shannon being one of them.) And it's not "don't like" in a sense that you tune in to hear them. It's turn the freaking volume down bad.

Last night, Lou Pinella was on the ALCS broadcast. I like him as an analyst and I know he knows the game, but play by play? No way. It was woeful. This is the ALCS and they throw him on there. I have never met a Tim McCarver fan yet he does all of baseball's biggest games.

The networks in all sports seem to have a finite pool of guys that they pull from and most of them are former players who suck at talking. Gone are the days of the Keith Jackson, the Ernie Harwell, the Howard Cosell. Broadcasting is now the nursery home for retired athletes and it sucks.

I am not a boxing fan, but I watched the fight with the Russian giant the other night. You wanna hear bad? Watch an HBO boxing event. It makes those guys we get when we get Fox's "F" team sound good.
