Saints gettin some more TV coverage respect from FOX!!

I was bummed all week about this game because I'm out here in L.A., and I can't get myself to go to any sports bars in Pasadena that I know of that are Saints friendly (although I guess the whole Rose Bowl-USC-Reggie tie in might have an affect THIS year, haven't checked this season... ). So I was stuck at home with yet another stinkin West Coast Regional game (with the Rams no less, adding insult to injury!).

I checked back today to make sure what all the games were for this Sunday, and whoa what a difference a day makes --- we're getting another Saints game in SoCal!! But not only here, look at all these stations dumping the rams/seattle game for ours:

[Los Angeles, CA (KTTV); San Diego, CA (XETV); Palm Springs, CA (KDFX); Las Vegas, NV (KVVU); Phoenix, AZ (KSAZ); Tucson, AZ (KMSB); Yuma, AZ (KECY); Little Rock, AR (KLRT): SEA/STL -> PHI/NO]

as opposed to us getting sidelined for the seattle/st.louis game:

El Paso, TX (KFOX): PHI/NO -> SEA/STL

Man this is awesome!! Definitely a turn in the tide. Now I can not only enjoy the game from the comfort of my home, but I will be able to chat here with the good ole' bng crew 8) What a way to enter into a bye, I never woulda thought the beginning of this season, but I've already seen 3 Saints games on TV. :D There is no doubt in my mind we are going to win and also I bet we're going to get at least 3 more games broadcast in LA down the road!!

Go Saints!!!

lucky you. I get NYG at Atalanta. well eli is playing at least. I relly hate NY. They control the entire upper east coast. Well i could watch Houston at Dallas. They always show Dallas here. Hate them too.
Talk about getting the worst picks for this weeks games. Looks like I will be streaming again. They know everyone north of Connt. hates the NY teams.
Well there is always the sports bar.

Just checked my local listings for Houston and they are gonna broadcast the Saints game.
Friggin awesome!!!! Usually I have to listen to the Radio broadcast on Field Pass.

I'll try to make it into the chat group like most Sunday's still.

After never being able to catch Saints games when I was in San Diego for weeks at a time, I became a Chargers fan. Now, I don't regret my Sandy-Ego fandom at all, but I was sick not being able to watch the games. I watched the scoreboard graphic constantly throughout all of the games. It was torture.

I know what it's like. I'm glad you get to watch it, buddy.

I'm happy that you guys will get to watch the Saints game this weekend because it's going to be an intense game, IMO the winner will take it by only 4 points.
If I lived out of state and couldn't watch the Saints it would kill me every Sunday, I would for sure get Direct TV and subscribe to the NFL ticket..

We're getting the Giants in Atlanta because they are playing the Falcons. Last week they did show the Saints/Bucs game.

Your dilemma is the reason I've bought the NFL Sunday Ticket for the last 4 years. I get every Saints game from the comfort of home.

Been a Sunday Ticket subscriber since inception...I have not missed a Saints game in like 10 years or so.(can't recall exactly when the first year was but....I know I paid for it when it started.) This is great though....when you are the highlight game of the 12:00 or 4:00 slot (in this case its 12) you know you are doin good. I guess this also means for those of you who do live in N.O. that Joe Buck and the gang are gonna host the pregame show right outside of the dome right? You guys are gonna get to scream and hollar at them and the nation while they yap about the Saints game and every other game for that day. Make the country proud you guys. I'll be there in spirit but chillin here at home (Miami) celebrating my son's second b-day whith the game on the big screen. WE WILL PULL THIS ONE OFF! BELIEVE!!! :saintsfan:

ya its amazing they r showing the game here in san antonio and im so excited. i wont get to watch it so im gonna go tivo it and watch it right after i finish refereeing soccer. this is so great.

Tobias-Reiper 10-14-2006 02:49 PM

... damn you, Aretha Franklin...

... how does TV coverage amount to "respect'"? It is simply a busness decision:
In SoCal: now that Reggie broke the ice, there's higher interest in watching him.
In San Asstonio: they are still dreaming of a b&g christmas.
In Houston: people want to see Reggie fail.
In Louisiana: obvious.

And the rest of the world:
Many Eagles fans nationwide.
Like to hear it or not, about a third of the season gone by, a match of 4-1 division leading teams has *gasp* playoff implications.

... it has nothing to do with "respect:"... BTW, they ought to add an entry in the dictionary for "respect" : most overused and misused word in the English language.

saintswhodi 10-14-2006 02:52 PM

Have to agree, again, with Tobias. Very little to do with respect, but still good to see fo rthose that may not normally get to see the Saints. But honestly, if we keep playing well, we will be on TV a LOT in the future.

kuke 10-14-2006 03:23 PM

Man, I am so seriously considering Sunday Ticket. I gotta hold out another couple seasons to see if digital cable (which I currently get) will swing a deal with the NFL one day... a Saints fan can dream, even (or especially) if it's delusional!

And I like your suggestion, saintswhodi, I can also see the saints on TV a LOT in the future, especially in the month of January!! :D :D :D

Yeah, and Tobias? All your reasons we are getting TV coverage are signs of respect. We deserve attention because people want to see the stars on our teams, or they lust after our franchise, or they are jealous player haters, or they are true fans (like us). And how do you think business decisisons aren't based on results? They recognize. That's respect. No need for dictionaries, buddy. If our team doesn't produce, they don't get covered on a national basis. They are getting that attention now. The people who program are acknowledging our team as a serious contender. Very basic.

Ask yourself this, if the Saints were to continue to win, and TV networks began cutting the coverage, would you consider that disrespect? I guess you don't see the link between respect and acknowledgement of accomplishments. BTW, what's you definition or respect again? To me, respect has to do with attention and appreciation of what we can do, but it also has to do with results. Are you saying that the Saints aren't producing results consistent with a sports team being featured on a national level? I think we are and we will.

Go Saints!!
(no disrespect intended, of course! )

saintswhodi 10-14-2006 04:43 PM

I waited to see if Cable would get DirecTv as well, couldn't wait any longer. Dude, just get it. I am telling you. Best thing ever. The next step I hope they take is where you can just buy all the games for the team you wanna see, like just a Saints package or something. That would be sweet.

RedNekSaint 10-14-2006 06:36 PM

Here in Houston we are getting the Saints as game of the week. With the 62" and the surround sound blaring and a house full of displaced Louisiana boys and a gumbo on the stove, we gonna have a big time yeah.

Are you feeling ok there, whodi? I'm concerned :)

... but seriously, I do agree that 's good for the fans who otherwise weren'y be able to catch the games before can catch them now.

Also, the more national exposure the Saints get, the less the "small market" argument works, if you know what I mean. This season is a carpe diem season for the Saints. They are the feel-good story of the year. The more games they win, the more people will watch them, the more banwag... er.. fans they'll make.

FatiusJeebs 10-15-2006 08:42 PM

To Longtime Fan....I wanna thank you for your post on my son and the win. It was nice of you to even mention anything on it.

And now......just to let you know.........THIS SUNDAY COULD NOT HAVE BEEN ANY BETTER!!!!!! (well the Phins could have at least squeaked out a W in their game but to no avail.) I knew we could take these guys and now we get a bye. SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

G504 10-15-2006 08:51 PM

Yeah, I had to listen on Sirius again. I'm up in Blacksburg, VA. Haven't gotten a Sunday afternoon Saints game yet! I just wish they'd decide who they wanna root for. Sometimes we get Redskins games because Virginia still has dreams of making the Washington Redskins the "Virginia/DC Redskins," sometimes we get Panthers because geographically they're the closest, and sometime we get Falcons so Tech fans and thinking longingly of their Micheal Vick days. And then sometimes we get the national game! I think our local Fox just plays rock-paper-scissors to decide.

kuke 10-15-2006 11:28 PM

I looked at the lineup for our game against the Ravens, and its like a perfect storm come a fortnight from now, as far as possible national TV coverage goes. CBS has a doubleheader that week and for the possible early games, there are only 2 other choices, one of them being the juggernauts of Houston vs. Titans  and the other is Jacksonville vs. The team we just hit in the face with a brick. Personally, I think our game would be a far superior matchup.

I can see it now. . . a grand majority of the country tuning in 2 weeks from now to see the Saints and Ravens return from their bye weeks to do some battle. Can I get an AMEN, brothers and sisters!!!
 :band:

How sweet it is!! ! :D :D :D

Hey Red, when a person has a gumbo on the stove and a large screen one should never ask for anything else, you got it going on bro at your crib..
My wife made a gumbo yesterday, I ate 3 bowls of that brown juice...

Joe Horn made the paper in Los Angeles (Daily Breeze)...not Reggie. This is a good sign....people are starting to take notice of the TEAM.

neugey 10-16-2006 11:54 AM

Yesterday in Nebraska I was PISSED. Have in-laws over at house, can't get out to the bar. Vikings have a bye week, hoping Saints are on TV .... nope Dallas/Houston (knew that would be one-sided) & Seattle/St Louis (which ended up being a good game at least). Well I guess I can handle that. I figure they'll be on radio, right? Nope local radio has winless Tennesseee vs Washington and winless Bucs vs Bengals. WTF! Those games over Eagles(4-1) at Saints(4-1) ???? So I'm stuck at home with the in-laws and kids screaming watching the scores update on the corner of the TV. Joy. What a stupid f*cking way to watch a game. I may as well be at work.

The Saints are 5-1 and boy am I happy, but if I hear some MF call the Saints America's Team one more time I'll shove a Dallas Cowboys helmet up their rear because the Saints get very little respect or publicity.
I'll be pissed if the Saints don't get awarded at least one of those Sunday night slots. Our schedule is tough and those should be good games.

BTW I'm putting complaints in to my local radio stations to tell them to put winning teams on the radio instead of pulling this crap out of their a**.

jrmllb 10-16-2006 11:59 AM

I hope I can catch the game in Arkansas on Thanksgiving weekend...gonna be at my
in-laws...UUGGGHH...not so bad though since my father-in-law got us tickets for the Tigers vs. Razorbacks in Little rock...I may get beat down up there but no one can stop me from singing "Hold that Tiger"

Kristomac 10-16-2006 12:53 PM

DirecTV has the NFL locked up contractually until 2010. You're gonna be waiting a long time. The NFL signed a Six year exclusivity contract with DIRECTV in 2004 for Sunday games. Which is why the NFL network is going to be showing games on Thur. and Sat.

And here in Houston, we will get that riveting Titans / Texans clash. Oh well, good excuse to go to the sports bar.
