Don't under-estimate this win :)

Ladies and Gentlemen:

We have a TEAM.

Yes there were some mistakes, and they did give up a lead, but they took it back! Not only did they take it back, that last drive that consumed all the time left (8 minutes) and culminated in the winning FG as time ran out was a thing of beauty.

Five and One!

The last drive just killed the Eagles, we left them with no time left on the clock, how discouraging is that to a team who wants the ball one more time to have a chance to make a few plays...
Great play called by coach Payton on the winning drive, the last dirve.

Yet some will come on here and say "Oh they still aren't that impressive. We only beat one good team. The Falcons don't count because that was all emotion."

All of you skeptics, spare us. We would like to enjoy our team.

RE: Don

... BTW, the Bucs beat the Bengals, on a TD pass by that Lebowski guy :)
..yep, those Marvin Lewis coached, Carson Palmer QB'd, Chad Johnson entertained, how'syourmama's Bengals.

Yeah, this was a big win. Can't rationalize it away. The fact is, there is parity in the NFC. Carolina, everybody's Superbowl pick  , isn't exactly blowing teams out either. Seattle & New York also had a couple squeakers. Chicago is really the only team in the NFC that's consistantly winning by mutiple scores. I like our chances against the rest of the schedule, though. Of course Baltimore (will McNair be back?), Cinny, Pittsburgh, New Jersey and the Cowgirls are all potential loses, and it's doubtful we'll win all 5 of those games, but week-by-week, I'm picking us each time. Because we'll be in all those games! And by the way, if we lose all 5, we're still 10-6.

Every win in the NFL is hard to come by. Look at how some "great teams" are doing. 5-1 is an AMAZING record at this point and I don't think any of us had them doing this well. Every week is a joy to watch and I feel more confident that we've got a shot at the playoffs tough schedule or not.

jdiggy 10-15-2006 08:59 PM

It's been 6 years since I felt this confident about our team.

Haslett's first season was pretty awesome too, if you remember.

It's a DAMN GOOD FEELING!

We handed the Eagles their asses for 30 minutes. Then were resiliant enough to take their best shot and win the game anyhow. Don't forget - this is the 2nd best tam in the NFC, undoubtedly one of the top 5 teams in the NFL at large. We beat their asses. It means a lot.

This was a game that if the Saints lost, no one would have been surprised. A good team, maybe a top 5 team, coming off a nice win against an upstart. Thing is, they faced a good team, coming off a nice win.

Don't want to play the Eagles again, they are good. But today, the Saints were better.

For once it was nice to see the Saints running out the clock on offense to end the game and not the other team.

I'm seeing about 50/50 coverage in terms of the "analysts" and their assesment of the win. The guys I would expect to be down on the Saints chalk the win up to the fact that the Eagles were drained because of last weeks game against the Cowboys...they were all ready with a stat: Ried is 5 and 6 the a week after playing the Cowboys. Why would you even look up that stat?!?! Aikman was chomping at the bit waiting for the Eagles to win.
I've recorded all of the games so far on DVD, and I watch them all the time...the Saints improve SIGNIFICANTLY every week...it's very noticeable when you look at how we played week 1 compared to yesterday. if we continue to improve every week...it's scary.

RedNekSaint 10-16-2006 09:11 AM

Tell the analysts to kiss my fat redneck a$$ with the Eagles were flat crap. They got beat.

jrmllb 10-16-2006 09:40 AM

agreed Kristo...they have gotten better every week...the formations have gotten more diverse every week...and even though he threw two pics, one was a tip and that happens, Brees has looked more and more comfortable in the offense and develping his swagger...How awesome was scoring on the opening two drives....when was the last time that happened...Looks like Reggie is getting a little more patient in his running by waiting for holes and blocks to develop...I think the Eagles were keyed on him and they probably spent way to much time game planning around him...Plain and simple the Eagles got beat down in NOLA

As bad as the Boys played in that game they were in position to extend that game before Bledsoe went stupid. We didn't go stupid. 16 plays. 8:26 seconds off the clock. A well-managed drive against a good defense to win the game. The "analysts" can bite me.

Savant 10-16-2006 02:22 PM

Analysts are a mixed profession. Some really don't know what they're talking about at all. Some flip-flop from week to week.A team wins: They're for real. They lose the next week: they've got serious problems. Like the Eagles are by no means a bad team. They will most likely make the playoffs. You have to really look at margins of victories and losses. Losses more so. A win is a win.
