Lions waive WR Hakim again

NFL.com wire reports

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (Oct. 30, 2006) -- The Lions waived wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim for the second time in 18 months.

Hakim, a nine-year veteran, had 17 catches in six games with Detroit after signing on Sept. 12. Hakim also played for the Lions from 2002-2004, catching 117 passes for 1,523 yards and 10 touchdowns.

He scored the first touchdown at Ford Field on a punt-return reverse against Green Bay on Sept. 22, 2002.

The Lions released Hakim in the summer of 2005. He played last season for New Orleans, catching 34 passes for 489 yards and two scores.

"It was a football move," Lions coach Rod Marinelli said. "I'm not going to elaborate on that."

The team did not announce a move to fill Hakim's roster spot.
