How about that Saints rookie? Marques Colston, that is
By BRETT MARTEL, AP Sports Writer
October 31, 2006

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- It became obvious to Saints coach Sean Payton back in training camp that rookie receiver Marques Colston was going to be good.

Maybe not the most prolific, big-play, touchdown-scoring weapon on the team. Maybe not a prime candidate for rookie of the year. But good.

"He's been consistent. That's the one thing you're always looking for in a receiver and it had a lot to do with why we ended up putting him there and not the other guy," Payton said this week.

By "other guy," Payton meant the Saints' 2005 leading receiver, Donte' Stallworth, who was traded shortly before the regular season.

Stallworth has been productive in Philadelphia with 15 catches for 304 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but has missed several games with a hamstring problem.

Colston leads New Orleans (5-2) with 577 yards receiving and six touchdowns on 33 catches. No Saints running back or receiver has gained as many yards from scrimmage.

I'm glad to see the kid finally getting some media attention from a national standpoint. Colston could very well make the Pro Bowl as a rookie if he continues his dominance.

How long of a contract did Marcus sign with the Saints?
I should know that but I don't, shame on me.
Colston will be the future WR for the Saints once Horn retires or Gawd forbid signs with another team, I hope Joe remains a Saint for another two years or as long as he feels he can still play the game at the level he is right now.

He signed a 3 year deal meaning he will be a RESTRICTED free agent after that...meaning the Saints pretty much can match any offer he gets...but rest assured, if he has only touched the surface of his potential and he continues to improve, he will be a Saint for a long long time. I dont see the organization going in the wrong direction...he is going to be here for a while and Joe Horn's records that he just broke will be in jeopardy. But congrats to Joe for passing my all-time favorite Saint, Eric Martin, in TD catches.

It's all in the reflexes.

Marques is doing great, and hopefully he will be the Saints #1 receiver and break all records in the league.

Contract Details
Horn signed a six-year contract extension on May 5, 2005. The ESPN website reports that the deal is worth $42 million and included a $7 million signing bonus.

Colston Article from South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Best rookie in the NFL this season? Try Saints tight end Colston
By Charles Bricker

South Florida Sun-Sentinel

(MCT)

---

"He should only be signed as a free agent because he is a `tweener, between receiver and tight end. He can make an NFL team now as a third tight end and special teams player and eventually could develop into a starter, if he plays aggressively and raises his level of intensity on every snap."

_ NFL.com scouting report

---

It's not the first time some scouting genius got one wrong, and it won't be the last.

That `tweener, New Orleans Saints seventh-round rookie Marques Colston, has 33 catches, 577 yards and six touchdowns after a 163-yard afternoon against the Baltimore Ravens' esteemed secondary on Sunday.

Running back Reggie Bush got most of the publicity before this year's draft and defensive end Mario Williams got the honor of being chosen first.

But from the first game of the season, when he caught the 12-yard touchdown pass that provided New Orleans with the winning points against the Cleveland Browns, Colston has been the No. 1 rookie.

He's at the top of my 10 best rookies at the midway point of the season, followed by outside linebacker Ernie Sims of the Lions; defensive end Tamba Hali of the Chiefs; Bush of the Saints; former UM receiver/returner Devin Hester of the Bears; left tackle Marcus McNeill of the Chargers; strong safety Donte Whitner of the Bills; middle linebacker DeMeco Ryans of the Texans; kicker Stephen Gostkowski of the Patriots; and tight end Owen Daniels of the Texans.

I'm no one.

Take the New Orleans Saints. Although first-round draft pick Reggie Bush is getting more headlines, another rookie, seventh-round draft pick Marques Colston, has been every bit as important a part of the Saints' surprising turnaround. But if both players stay in New Orleans until their rookie contracts expire, Bush will have made about $50 million, while Colston will have made about $2 million.

I googled it and this is the best I found.
Sorry.

Three year contract.

He'll have a renegotiated contract before this one expires.
