WE are getting better and I think we should just give Reggie 2-3 pllays directly lifted from LT's playbook and just have him watch alot of film and talk to Drew to really get the intangibles down like workouts, prep, etc...
Reggie worked out exclusively with LT for months prior to the draft.
Tomlinson said that Reggie took his (LT's) workout to another level, and LT couldn't hang with him (Reggie).

Brees just needs to mentor Reggie in the LT mold.
How would a QB mentor a RB?
The two positions are too dissimilar.

Thanks for the info, Rocky, I didn't know that about Reggie and LT.

Yeah, the thing about Drew "mentoring" Reggie, I guess I mispoke, but Drew could just say, "Well, Reggie, that's not how LaDainian used to do it...", everytime he goes for the sidelines or maybe just share some of the on the field/practice squad, you know, FOOTBALL related activities he remembered about LT instead of just workouts, but I think workouts are very important and I thank you alot for telling me whats up.

But you are right, the two positions are too dissimilar. Do you know if Drew and LT were friends, or was it strictly professional? I just hope during offseason they can all 3 hang out.

Whoops!
I had that backward.

He promised not to "forget where I came from" and made it clear just how deep those ties run – all the way through his blood, sweat and even his vomit, Bush said yesterday. During the summer, Bush explained, he worked out with Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson, whose regimen was so demanding that Bush got sick.

"It was the first time I ever threw up in a workout," Bush said. "I like to think of myself in pretty good shape, and he showed me what it takes. It's a whole other level. It changed my whole workout, my whole thought process, and I came back with a renewed focus."

My bad.

Also, this sounds kind of weird, but this quote sounds a bit patronizing, kind of how you shine on someone who wants to hang out with you, you say, "oh no, you're too cool, I can't hang out with you, I got nothing". Maybe LT is just like a Zen master who doesn't want people to find out his secrets to ultimate TD rushing, so he pretends anyone who is asking is way better, so they get an ego boost and leave him be.

Not saying that is the case, just kind of sounds like how you talk to a kid to give them confidence, but get them to stop bugging you

I hope that's not the case, and that they can be friends and Reggie can have a mentor in the RB role (other than Deuce, of course!)

Man, I had that whole complex hyothetical scenario built up in my headfor nothin!!! :argue: :bang:

Well, at least Reggie still got something to learn, get enthused, and maybe he can get that drive and focus that LT brought on.

Rock on!

my 2cents worth....

I think coach Payton see`s what we see, and if Reggie is doing something fundamentally wrong I believe coach Payton will address it and fix it. For all I know Payton could be telling Reggie to work the corners for a particular reason, I don`t know. But, I do know we`re 6-2, and I do know this coach will get in a players face if they screw up, and I don`t think Reggie is an exception.

I gotta agree with Saintsfan4. Payton knows what he is doing. If Reggie is screwing up, Payton will take care of it. I'm not worried about Reggie. He'll be fine. He is a decoy right now, but things will change. He'll break one soon and we won't be having this conversation. I would like to see Deuce get the ball a little more, but the Saints are 6-2, so you can't really justify changing anything.

The bottom line here is, the Saints are winning with Reggie getting negative yards on the ground. When he finds his niche we will be even better.

I think we all know that we can trust Paytons judgement. Let the man do his job, he's taking care of business.

It doesn't seem like he is getting the blocking that other players are getting. He gets tackled behind the LOS. The line might need to block better.

Guys we got to sit them lad down until he can atleast run back to the scrimmage.

Absolutely not. I disagree.

I absolutely agree with your disagreement.

To be sure, Reggie's numbers are horrible. He still has a profound effect on our entire offense in his ability to attract attention from multiple defenders. While they key on him, the rest of our offense runs wild. You bench Reggie and our entire offense is downgraded.

Oh and we are 6-2. If it ain't broke....
And the only way he will get it is to keep running him out there. The coaching staff needs to analyze why he keeps getting stuffed for losses and correct it.

Ricky Williams had the same problem when he first started with the Saints, but he was soon coached and corrected, and he started doing better. Reggie is doing the same thing every week....trying to take everything to the corner. Several replays today showed he had holes up the middle, that he was running too fast out of the gate to even see.

Very deft description of his problem. The kid needs to learn to slow down in the running game and see what's going on.

But his body has had years of training to juke when he sees something. And he's doing that juking way to early in the play.

Reggie has been running on talent since he was a kid. He's going to have to relearn how to run on scheme.

Decoy shmeecoy...there's no reason a kid as talented as he is and as fast as he is, can't be taught to slow down and wait for the play to develope.
But you have to teach him right. Because if you coach all of that natural talent out of him, he won't be a special as he is.

If Duece were hurt and the team was 2-6 and looked terrible, I'd actually be worred about this. Let's remember that Duece only had 91 yards rushing behind Ricky his rookie year.

Bush is already an impact player in this league both on and off the field. The team is doing well. He actually has time to learn how to be the man.

I'm willing to chill until that happens.
