Do we Raelly Want the Bye?

After the way we played in week 8 against the Ravens I myself am not to sure. It maybe best to stay on the field and keep playing.

I hear ya Hagan. I don't like the wait and play. I think if they do get a bye, we won't see the same game play as the Raven game.

Joe Horn, Marques Colston, Aaron Stecker, and Will Smith. Four reasons to want the bye. Let these guys little injuries heal up. Hollis Thomas. He'll need the week back with the first team to get back into the groove.

Payton will not let what happened during the regular season happen during the post season. The team will come out on fire. Plus, I don't want to try to win four playoff games. Three is tough enough.

You have to be happy with the bye if we get it. We've got some key guys that have been injured in the past few weeks that could use a week off. Marques isn't 100%, Joe's hurt, Will Smith is just coming off an injury. I realize your point about keeping the momentum going and everything, but a week off could be huge at the end of a very long, physical 17-week season.

I couldn't agree more. As far as them getting a week off, coming back and not playing as good of football I have seen something in that team over the last few weeks that I haven't seen in many years. THE WILL TO WIN. They looked like men on fire last night and Drew Brees said something during his pregame interview that stuck with me. " We want to win for that guy next to me" I have never seen the team gel this well and they are hungry make no mistake. Getting the week off will help our injuries and prepare those guys for the emotional games that will be played in the post season.

... the difference being that the Ravens were also coming off a bye, Brees plainly had a bad game that day (without the INTs for TDs, the Saints offense outscored the Ravens defense) and these are the playoffs. The guys who played the week before left most of their tanks on the field the week before.

I just can't see it as a good idea. Simple math dictates that it's easier to win two games to get to the SuperBowl than it is to win 3. And in the case you do not get the bye, you are virtually guaranteed that any game after the first week is going to be on the road.

I think I remember seeing a stat that something like 80% of the teams who get the bye win their home divisional playoff game.

WIth odds like that, I think it's too overwhelming an idea to skip.

BTW with the Ravens, it was the outstanding defense, not the bye week that caused the problem. Remember that Brees threw two pick-6s in that game. That's the difference between winning an losing.

I honestly compared what we did to the Cowboys last night, to what the Ravens did to us. The cowboys are a talented team, and they did have a bad night. Due to our play. The bye can be good, and can also be bad. Pitt won a SB last year, with all of their play off wins on the road, so if our guys want it, as bad as they did last night, then I say either way, and we're good to go.

I'm more concentrated on home field advantage right now. I can't believe I'm rooting for Haslett's defense tonite. Bears lose tonite, and we got a chance to take 1st place in the NFC away. THAT would be the ultimate Christmas present to me.
