How Brees clinches MVP

All the talking heads, spare one or two, so far are giving the MVP award to LT this season, mainly because he broke the season TD record. Now I'll admit this record is impressive, but this record has been broken three times in the past 10 years, twice in two years. I think that if Brees breaks Marino's record for total passing yards which has stood for 22 years he pretty much seals the deal. Currently Brees is at 4033 yards passing, and Marino's record is 5,084 yards, that means Brees would have to average atleast 350 yards per game through the last three to break the record. And we all know the way he's been playing this season, thats not entirely out of the question. Especially if he front loads it with like 400+ this weekend against the 32 pass defence in the league. Anyway even if he doesn't break it, he's still the MVP in my book either way...

That's the only way I think he will get it, it is possible for him to break Marino's record. But I would rather see him play his game and not purposefully try to break the record. Could bite us in the waazoo.

I personally have no problem with LT and Brees splitting it. First of all they have both had transcendent seasons for two excellent teams. Secondly, they are basically best friends, they dine together with their wives and work out together in the offseason. Thirdly, other sports have had split MVP's in the past and most recently Manning/McNair split it in the NFL so there is precedent.
I am pulling for Brees to win it because I think he is more valuable to his team than any other player except maybe Manning, but LT broke the single season TD record with THREE GAMES left in the season. This just can't be ignored.

I just hope for the SuperChargers' sake the rest of the offense remembers how to play football come January.

Its not just the TD record... the man is awesome to watch and putting up incredible numbers. He is also the reason the Chargers are winning. Its really hard to give all the credit to Brees because everyone is eyeing Payton as coach of the year, we could end up with a rookie of the year. Its just to hard to point your finger at Brees for that this year over LT, but he is a strong number 2.

Heck we could hit the trifecta, coach of the year, Rookie,MVP. Throw in comeback player of the year and it's a sweepstakes.

It's not a forgone conclusion by any means. If Brees breaks the 5,000 yard mark, and we don't lose another game for the rest of the regular season, they will probably be co-MVPs. This is as good a year as any for that honor. But Brees has to get to 5,000.

He's also an astonishing 26-for-45 for 14 TDs, 2 INTs and 1,112 yards on throws that travel at least 21-plus yards in the air. He leads the league in 20-plus yard passes (55) and 20-plus yard touchdowns (16). He has the best QB-INT differential in the league (+15). He's second in passing for first downs (180 overall). He's even second in the league in dropped passes by his receivers (28.). Look, I know Tomlinson has been amazing, but Brees has been playing out of his mind with a collection of rookies and castoffs. He HAS to be the MVP through 14 weeks. No other choice is acceptable.

I'm thinking that if we lock up the second seed, before the Panthers game, then he needs to sit anyway. Let him ride the pine, and get ready for the play offs. McCallister too. I'm sure if you ask Brees which he would rather have, MVP, or a chance at a Superbowl, we all know what he would say. This guy seems to leave the "me first" mentallity at home, which has made this such a great season. He is the Saints MVP no doubt about it. I thank God we got him.
