Fred Thomas..

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; If Laron Landry slips to us we need to just pick him up, he's a stud. But I really would like to see a DT or CB, or a really good LB. laron will most likely be a top 10 ...

Freddy gets no help over the top a lot of times so he's going to look bad more often than not, especially when the Safeties are backing up the run. When Hollis gets back, the run defense will be much stouter up the middle and there will be more support for the edges.
i agree with the help over the top but he still gets beat easily on double moves... he tries to play bump coverage and i dont think he is fast enough against some of the guys he is going up against....

Actually, Thomas has played better as the year has progressed. He was burned on that play last week, but his coverage the rest of the day was damn solid. However, I do think that we need to draft a young cornerback. We've got to look at the cap situation long-term. With the money currently going to Brees, Horn, Duece, and Reggie, I don't think cap-wise we can afford to sign Clements or Samuel. It'll kill us in the future.
the cap is expected to go up by 10-11 mil next year and we should have plenty of cap space to sign anyone we want... we should be about 10 million under the cap right now... and with the increase... we should be golden

Something else to think about while we're talking about Depth... Devery Has had big plays this year(the end around against Falcs., Big Grab against Dallas.. ect..) but has had some big drops.. (Redskins, ECT.) I think hes a good WR that needs some help with his hands but we should really consider another WR in the off season.. Not to say we should get rid of Devery cuz he is very fast.. but another reciever wouldn't be bad in the later rounds or a semi-vet from the FA.. what do you guys think?

devery is a great 3rd reciever... dont think he has the hands to be a 2nd but he is a great 3rd... not many 3rd cornerbacks have his speed... very dangerous for us

IMO you play the guys who got you to this point, (playoffs) Fred being one of those guys.
Next year might be different, I think we look to replace him but right now isn't the time to sit him, he's in sync with the defense.

to get off the subject a bit, if thomas does so happen to leave, should duece switch to number 22?... i think he should, thomas has been there ever since he was drafted, and that was the number he wanted, but i think it should be up to duece, but personally i think i would like it, and i'm sure benson wouldn't mind the jersey sales...
