The Patriots = No Class

I am so glad that LT called the Patriots out for their lack of class on Sunday.
I have been a believer that the Patriots play unclean football for quite some time now, and it was extremely evident on Sunday. I have heard no mention about the numerous late hits and smack talking that dominated the Patriots play by any commentator. The referees as well as the announcers are blind to any wrong that the Pats do.
All I hear is that the chargers lost their cool. But if you look at the game you see every incident was provoked by dirty play including severe face masks, punches thrown, and hits well out of bounds. None of which drew flags or comment by those calling the game.
I hope LT and I are not the only ones who sees the Patriots for what they are, but it sure feels like that.
If what I'm saying sounds wrong, just do me this.
Watch the Indy-Pats game closely next week, with my statements in mind, and I'm confident you'll see the Patriots for what they really are.

RE: The Patriots = No Class

..well, I personally find the "dance" - looks more like epileptic shock to me - Merriman performs very annoying, and it's simply taunting. I don't like the Patriots per see, but I can see where they'd want to mock it. If Merriman can do it, the Patriots can do it as well, especially after the game is over.

As for the "class" business, "class" is now the same as "respect", i.e., the 2 most over-used and ill-defined words in U.S. sports today. Obviously no one has had the time to either look it up in the dictionary, or do a quick research on the origins of "having class", as it refers to certain behavior.

RE: The Patriots = No Class

class[klas, klahs]: grace, or dignity, as in dress and behavior
respect[ri-spekt]: to show regard or consideration for

Let me put it another way
If LT is X, and Patriots are Y, class is Z, and no class is 0, then:

X+football=Z whereas

Y+Tom Brady+Bill Bellicheck=0

RE: The Patriots = No Class

Yea I'm pretty sure it was Brady and Bilichek doing the Merriman dance on the Chargers' logo.

It wasn't right that some of the Patriots did that, but to say it wasn't provoked at all is false. I don't remember where I read it this morning but a Pats' player said that there was a lot of smack talking going on throughout the game by the Chargers.

I hate the fact that every single play in the NFL nowadays is celebrated. A two yard loss, the defense jumps and hoots and hollers. A first down in the second quarter, and the receiver jumps up like he just won the Superbowl. It makes players like Deuce and Marques look that much better. You never really see those guys trying to bring attention to their selves after making a big play.

I stand firm in my believe that if Meriman can do it, then so can ANY other player. I want someone to argue this and try to sound intelligent. LT was being a poor loser, and that is the end of that.

SaintPauly 01-16-2007 12:35 AM

I didn't know this either, but apparently, Meriman, in response to him not getting defensive player of the year, sent Jason Taylor a box of popcorn in the mail. To eat, while he's watching the play offs from his couch. I wonder if Jason spilled it laughing, when the Chargers lost.

I can't believe no one has given me one prop, for picking the Pats over the Chargers.... (sob, sob) Sometimes I think you guys don't pay any attention to me at all.......

So let me get this straight: you want props for predicting a team coached by Marty Schottenheimer would lose a playoff game? :)

Hey I had money on the Pats last Sunday... :P

Boo hoo. That mean old team with no talent beat me and my supremely arrogant and stupid teammates in our house when we had two weeks to prepare and they had to play a tough game last week. And to top it off, when we jeered at them during the week and before the game with rediculous dances and smugly incomprehensible comments, they had the nerve to celebrate their achievement and our foolishness in the middle of our field where we played the game. We may be losers and they may be the better team, but they should know better than to be happy for themselves and revel in our indignity, especially since we showed little effort to control ourselves in the first place. We invented that dance and this country should have laws protecting us from being humiliated for prancing like we're winners without actually winning.

saintfan 01-16-2007 10:17 AM

If you're gonna do that silly crap, the dancin', the jump shots (Personally I think this one is stoooopid beyond all others), then you better be ready to have it shoved back in your face.

Let it go LT.

thib82 01-16-2007 10:32 AM

The thing that gets me, is why would LT want to call out Bill Belicheck like this. One coach you don't want to piss off is the patriots coach. Now that they have a rivalry starting, the patriots will dominate the chargers year in and year out. It doesn't matter who your coach will be in the future, the chargers will get out coached, and out played.

Point noted.

FrenzyFan 01-17-2007 10:13 AM

I don't know about them being "classless" or whatever, but in my opinion they DO play dirty ball and seemingly get away with things that others do not. The changes in defensive illegal contact rules were a direct result of their mauling of Colts receivers in a playoff game. The rule existed at the time of the mauling and yet nothing was called during the game.

When I watch the Pats, I see them hit people late and out of bounds. They get away with blatant holding by their offensive line all the time, I'm talking fully extended arms with fists knotted in defenders' jerseys - and this over and over again.

Just my opinion but they are one of the dirtiest teams in football.
